Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260510-E28EB-2147319546. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: KitchenAid KFES530SPS (KitchenAid Electric stainless steel 30" stove with a 4 prong cord. Self cleaning as well as). Incident: Bought a new KitchenAid Electric stove. It was delivered on Friday, May 8th and I used it for the first time on Saturday, May 9th. I set the over to 425F degrees to preheat so I can bake a casserole. Within a couple of minutes sparks and smoke were coming from behind the stove. Luckly my husband was in next room. We shut off power to the house and used a fire extinguisher to put out the electric fire. Black smoke and fumes filled our new home. Took off back panel to the unit and the whole control board is melted. We were lucky that we were close to the kitchen and not outside with our dogs because our house would have truly burned down. No one was injured but our nerves. I was in a fire as a child that this has just brought back the fears of dealing with a fire.
