Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260511-8C690-2147319499. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: Samsung NE63T8751SS AA (Samsung range (Model NE63T8751SS/AA, Serial0HF77DCR700947Z)). Incident: In August 2025, a Samsung electric range (Model NE63T8751SS/AA) unintentionally activated after being lightly brushed during normal household use conditions. The burner turned on to a high setting with minimal contact and ignited items on and near the cooktop, causing a kitchen fire that burned for hours while the homeowner was away. The product was being used as a normal household kitchen appliance in a residential home. The incident did not involve intentional burner activation or misuse of the appliance. Video evidence shows that the knobs on this model can engage with very slight, unintentional contact. The fire caused extensive property damage, including permanent damage to the cooktop, surrounding smoke and heat damage, destruction of household items, and damage to personal electronics. A burn injury and laceration occurred while responding to and cleaning up after the fire. Pets in the home also required veterinary treatment related to the incident. Samsung previously distributed knob locks for this range design in 2024 as a mitigation measure for accidental activation, indicating prior awareness of the hazard. However, the locks were ineffective and did not prevent unintended activation. The homeowner believes this product presents an ongoing fire and burn hazard because the burners can activate unintentionally under foreseeable household conditions with minimal physical contact.
