Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260520-F98BF-2147318997. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Cuisinart TOB-260N1NAS (Cuisinart TOB-260N1NAS Chef's Convection Toaster Oven). Incident: Under normal everyday use, the power cord and plug on this unit became extremely hot and began melting, producing a strong electrical burning smell. My wife and I discovered this as a fire hazard in our kitchen. No injury or property damage occurred, but the risk was clear. Photos of the damaged cord and plug were submitted to Cuisinart's consumer service team. Cuisinart declined to replace the unit citing the warranty period. (07/17/2026) Following my initial report, Cuisinart's claims team contacted me and requested I send the unit in for engineering evaluation, which I did in good faith. I also completed their questionnaire thoroughly, disclosing all relevant details upfront. Cuisinart's engineering team subsequently issued findings that contradicted my submitted documentation. They attributed the defect to the unit being placed too close to a wall, a conclusion that is physically inconsistent with the actual damage, which was isolated to the plug at the far end of the cord. My claim was denied a second time. I formally disputed their findings in writing. Cuisinart responded with a form letter that addressed none of my specific points and blamed me for the issue. Cuisinart requested I send the unit to them for evaluation using a prepaid label they provided. After completing their evaluation and issuing findings that I formally disputed, they have stopped responding entirely. Cuisinart is now retaining my personal property without authorization. Despite multiple formal written demands for its return at their expense, I have received no response whatsoever. It is worth not
