Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260525-5AE93-2147318681. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: NXR-PRO by Duro Corp NXR-PRO 48 model NXRPRO485 (NXR-PRO 48", model NXRPRO4851, manufacturer Duro Corp). Incident: I am reporting a documented fire-hazard safety defect in an NXR-PRO 48-inch professional-style gas range, purchased from Costco in February 2018 and installed in my single-family home, where I am the owner and operator. In May 2026, while attempting to locate the unit's serial-number plate (which is not visible from any exterior surface), I removed the front trim piece and discovered charred, burnt internal wiring inside the unit, at the point where the wiring passes through into the burner assembly area. The braided wiring sleeve showed burnt discoloration, the metal cavity opening had heat-darkened edges, and surrounding metal surfaces showed signs of sustained heat exposure. I have photographs. Because this is a fire hazard on a gas appliance, I immediately took the unit out of service: I shut off the gas at the wall valve and disconnected the electrical supply. My household has been without a working range since. This finding is consistent with unsafe behavior the unit has shown since its first year of use, including unpredictable burner temperature spikes and excessive, inconsistent oven heating, which on occasion caused minor first-degree burns to me during normal cooking (no medical treatment was needed). The manufacturer (NXR / Duro Corporation) was given written notice with photographs and declined to assess the safety condition, responding only that the unit was outside its 2-year warranty and that I should hire a technician at my own expense. The retailer (Costco) then closed the matter on that same warranty basis, without the safety diagnosis its own representat
