Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260606-A6639-2147317770. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Toro TimeCutter 75750 (Red and black gasoline-powered residential zero-turn riding lawn mower. It features a gray high-back seat with red stripes and twin steering lap bars. The machine is equipped with a rear-mounted, twin-cylinder Kawasaki engine enclosed in a black plastic shroud.). Incident: On Friday, June 5, 2026, I was operating my Toro TimeCutter zero-turn mower (Model 75750, Serial 409972299) to cut my residential lawn. While mowing under normal operating conditions, a sudden, rapid fire erupted inside the rear engine compartment. The flames grew rapidly, and I narrowly escaped serious personal injury while evacuating the machine. I was forced to use a portable fire extinguisher to suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading further. The machine was highly maintained and had just received professional service, including a fresh oil filter change, on April 8, 2026 (as physically documented on the machine's filter). Post-fire inspection reveals a catastrophic component safety failure. There is extensive melting, charring, and blistering on the electrical wiring harness and terminal boots immediately adjacent to the Kawasaki engine valve cover. Directly beneath these melted electrical components, there is a massive pool of unignited amber-colored engine fluid/fuel sitting on the red metal frame deck. The proximity of this fluid leak to a failing, overheating electrical component created an immediate and life-threatening fire hazard.
