Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260613-2EE2C-2147316861. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: SpotON Model Number SOF-11-001 version 14.0 (GPS "Dog Fence". Suppose to keep dog within and GPS set area that is drawn by the customer. Supposed to use warning sound and then they claim a non-shock (I believe it is a shock) to keep the dog in the area. It also is supposed to aid in tracking the dog if the dog escapes teh area.). Incident: We purchased at SpotOn GPS dog fence about a month ago. We have just moved into a new home with 6 acres. we initially looked at fencing the property to allow our 2-year-old lab retriever to move around the yard. we discovered GPS collars and researched and decided to purchase the consumer recommended product (SpotOn). We found the instructions difficult to follow. Called several times. Long wait times. Emailed and got some response. We finally tackled the set up and after checking and rechecking we succeeded in installing the GPS perimeter and training the dog. Indeed, the first day went well. The dog spent several hours in the yard. After a few hours, the dog reentered the house thru the dog door and went to sleep in the living room for about an hour. Suddenly the dog jumped up and began to howl and whine, running thru the room. We chased her down and as I grabbed at the collar it shocked me and was hot to the touch. The collar stayed on shocking and hot until it turned off (i would say for several minutes). They dog was traumatized. she would not come near us and would not move cowering in a corner. We reviewed the GPS settings and the house was clearly in the safe zone. This was random and sudden. I researched and found on [REDACTED] other cases of these collars suddenly turning on without warning. The company response to that was some kind of signal bounce. Said the customer was at fault for not putting the house in a safe zone, but it was already in the safe zone. Also said the signal bounces? I am used to correction
