Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260619-87A6A-2147316199. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: KXIY 600T 900T (The 12V & 24V car battery charger is sold on the Temu online shopping platform. The main body is a metal casing, equipped with standard red positive and black negative metal alligator clip output cables for connecting to vehicle lead-acid batteries. This charger is specifically designed for charging 12V & 24V lead-acid batteries of cars, motorcycles, ATVs, and other vehicles. Key safety defect: When the red and black alligator clips come into contact without an insulating sheath, they can generate continuous large electric sparks/arcs, which violates the US UL battery charger safety standard. The equipment casing or packaging does not bear a conspicuous UL safety certification mark.). Incident: I purchased a car battery charger from the Temu online marketplace. When testing the positive and negative terminals of the alligator clips without connecting a battery, touching the two metal clips together produced continuous and intense sparks/arcs, and the device lacked adequate safety protection. This product lacks the mandatory protective features required for battery chargers under the US safety standard UL. Continuous arcing poses a serious fire hazard, may burn skin, and if connected to a lead-acid car battery (which releases flammable hydrogen gas during charging, which could be ignited by sparks), there is a risk of battery explosion. I contacted Temu's customer service to report this product with dangerous defects, but they only agreed to a partial refund and refused to fully compensate or remove the product from sale. Although no one has been injured yet, this product poses an imminent safety threat to all consumers who have purchased it. I have clear video evidence recording the continuous sparks generated when the clips are short-circuited.
