Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260625-CE5DD-2147315218. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Ryobi RY401015US (Ryobi 40v Crosscut Lawnmower). Incident: My Ryobi mower (model RY401015US) suddenly started smoking and stopped working, and when I removed the top cover I saw that two connectors had burned and caught on fire, also burning part of the mower's housing. Before it outright stopped working it would not turn off without removing the battery, meaning the blades would spin even when the handles were not being depressed. Not sure if it's related but it would always happen toward the end of my mowing (regular grass, not thick brush or leaves), likely when the connectors were their hottest. It was concerning enough to not let anyone else use it, as removing the battery requires you to lean in and lift a cover, and feet get uncomfortably close to the spinning blade. I did see there was a recall for my model for the exact same issue (recall 25-127), but when I entered my mower's serial number it inexplicably told me my mower wasn't included in the recall, even though the recall was to cover connectors that can catch on fire, which mine did.
