Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260701-3E439-6133762. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool WEE515S0LS3 (Whirlpool, 4.8 cu.ft. Electric Range, Model WEE515S0LS3, Serial# RD4537034, $828.06, power cord #35, Tax $53.94, White. Right rear burner self-ignited. All butter knobs had been set to off and had never been used. This appliance was purchased on 12/04/24 by seller of 2-rm. condo and was in the unit when I bought it on 4/3/25. Its purpose was for cooking but I had never used it. After the fire, Mannys Appliances in Hadley, MA took away the stove whem delivering the new one I purchased 4/22/26.). Incident: The brand new, never used Whirlpool glass top oven that was in my apartment unit when I purchased it, self ignited on 4/18. [Model WEE515S0LS3 Ser # RD4537034] The flame from the burner set a nearby dish towel on fire. As the flame grew, I called 911, and the multi-unit building was evacuated (all residents 55+). The fire department came and extinguished fire and smoldering kitchenware. I knew there had been a civil penalty imposed upon Whirlpool for self igniting stovetops (case # [REDACTED]). I called the Consum Safety Commission and was told that there had been a second recall for the same reason and that the stove in my unit was on the list. I submitted all documentation to Whirlpool including the sales receipt from the seller of condo and much more. I had this dangerous unpredictable stove removed and I purchased a new stove with regular burners. Whirlpool will not reimburse me for either stove because I could not produce the part under the stove top that was defective.
