Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260709-6E95F-2147314206. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: KitchenAid KSEG700ESS (KitchenAid Stainless Steel Slide In Electric Range Model KSEG700ESS, Serial number RB2215278). Incident: Incident Details Product: Whirlpool KitchenAid Electric Range Model Number: KSEG700ESS (Approximately 3 years old) Date & Time of Incident: July 6, 2026, at approximately 5:30 PM CST Description of the Incident: While preheating the oven to 350F for standard food preparation, the unit suffered a sudden and severe internal electrical fire. The range began shooting electrical sparks and releasing heavy clouds of smoke into our home. My wife, terrified by the sudden combustion, screamed for help. I was forced to run into the kitchen and quickly pull the unit away from the wall to unplug it, risking personal injury to prevent a full-scale house fire. While we fortunately escaped physical injury, the event has left our household deeply traumatized by how quickly a routine household appliance turned into an active fire hazard. Manufacturers Inadequate Response Despite the severity of this safety failure, Whirlpool has shown a disturbing lack of accountability and urgency: Whirlpool dispatched a technician who conducted a brief, visual inspection and diagnostic. The technician explicitly diagnosed the issue as an internal electrical failure requiring the replacement of multiple control boards and the baking element. Unverified Safety: Despite labeling this an electrical failure, the technician deemed the unit "repairable" without doing a deep forensic examination of the internal wiring harness to ensure it is actually safe to ever plug back into a wall after repair. He left it unplugged for safety concern. No Timeline & No Resolution: There is currently no estimated time of arriva
