Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260713-437BC-2147313986. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire FCFE3083ASA (Black & stainless steel electric glasstop stove). Incident: The appliance has presented a severe, ongoing fire hazard since purchase, which has recently escalated to an electrical failure. For the past two years, the control knobs have been dangerously loose and prone to falling off. The design allows the burners to be turned on with minimal, accidental physical contact (such as brushing past the unit or contact by household pets), creating an immediate risk of unintended ignition. On July 12, 2024, a catastrophic internal electrical failure occurred. The stove tripped the 240-volt circuit breaker in the household subpanel. Attempting to reset the breaker caused it to immediately trip again. Upon staying on briefly, the exposed metal switch stem where the knob was removed began actively arcing electricity, creating a direct electrical fire hazard. The appliance is currently disconnected from power via the circuit breaker as it is completely unsafe to operate. The manufacturer was notified of this active fire hazard and attempted to demand a $300 service fee to address a catastrophic product failure.
