Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260802-00B76-2147313008. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: Febreeze Cant product is melted (Febreeze plug in). Incident: Incident Date: August 2, 2026 Incident Description: On August 2, 2026, a Febreze Plug Scented Oil Warmer caught fire while it was plugged into a standard wall outlet inside my home. I noticed a burning smell and discovered that the plug-in had overheated, melted, and ignited. The electrical outlet and the plug-in sustained significant burn damage, with visible melting, charring, and soot around the outlet. I unplugged the device after it was safe to do so to prevent the fire from spreading further. During the incident, I sustained a minor burn to my hand. Fortunately, the injury was slight and did not require emergency medical treatment, but the incident created a serious fire hazard and could have resulted in much more extensive property damage or injury. I have retained the damaged Febreze Plug device and have photographs documenting the damage to both the plug-in and the electrical outlet. I am submitting this report so the incident can be investigated and to help determine whether this product poses a safety risk to other consumers. Injuries: Minor burn to my hand. Property Damage: Burned and melted electrical outlet, damaged outlet cover, and damage to the wall surrounding the outlet. Current Condition of Product: Retained for inspection.
