Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260809-9D3CE-2147312688. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Lasko Floor Fan 3520 (Product: Lasko Floor Fan Manufacturer: Lasko Products Model Number: 3520 Product/Identification Number: 12291163 Type: 20 Electrical Rating: 120 V, 1.1 A, 60 Hz ETL Listed Control Number: 3129345 Standard shown on label: UL 507). Incident: While the Lasko Model 3520 floor fan was operating, visible flames developed inside the fan. The fire appeared to originate in the central motor/electrical assembly area. After the fan was unplugged and examined, visible heat/fire damage and discoloration could be seen around the motor and wiring adjacent to a black electrical component mounted near the motor. This was an actual fire with visible open flame, not simply overheating, an unusual odor, or smoke. The fan had not been intentionally modified. Photographs are available showing the product identification labels and the area where the apparent fire damage occurred. I am reporting this incident because an electrical household fan developing open flames during normal operation presents a potentially serious fire hazard. I have retained the fan in its post-incident condition and have not attempted to repair, clean, or further disassemble the affected components.
