Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260813-CD76F-2147312472. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kidde Model 30CUA10 (Kidde 10-year Battery and Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Interconnectable, Model 30CUA10). Incident: On June 8, 2026, at approximately 9 p.m., all four Kidde Model 30CUA10 hardwired combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms (manufacturing date March 12, 2025) installed at my residence in [REDACTED] activated simultaneously, emitting continuous alerts. My wife, who was alone in the residence, was unable to silence the units and was forced to physically remove all four from the walls. There was no fire, no smoke, and no carbon monoxide present. On June 12, 2026, a [REDACTED] technician inspected all appliances capable of emitting CO and confirmed no carbon monoxide leak. The four units were purchased on October 15, 2025 at The Home Depot, [REDACTED], Auburn, CA 95603 for $270.15 and were professionally installed and hardwired on October 16, 2025. The simultaneous activation of all four units in the absence of any hazard is consistent with an internal sensor or firmware defect. I am aware of a March 20, 2026 [REDACTED] complaint involving six Kidde Model 30CUA10-V units from a July 19, 2024 manufacturing batch, in which 50% suffered hardware failure with identical false alarm behavior. Kidde acknowledged that defect in its [REDACTED] response. I sent a written demand letter to Kidde at Kidde.Product.Support@carrier.com on June 18, 2026. Kidde failed to respond within the 14-day response deadline stated in my letter, and has not responded at all as of the date of this complaint.
