Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260823-03342-2147312024. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE Appliances JP3030DW2BB (GE 30-inch built-in electric radiant cooktop). Incident: I am reporting a severe product safety hazard regarding a GE 30-inch built-in electric radiant cooktop (Model: JP3030DW2BB). One of the main burners has experienced a total failure of temperature regulation and is permanently stuck on maximum heat ("High" / "Power Boil") whenever the burner is turned on. Regardless of where the control knob is physically positioned--whether set to Low, Medium, or any intermediate setting--the infinite switch fails to cycle power and immediately runs the burner at full electrical capacity. While the switch can still physically turn the burner off, any active operational state forces extreme, unregulatable heat. This exact model line (JP3030) was previously the subject of a major CPSC safety recall (Recall Number 23-144) for a nearly identical burner switch defect that caused burners to turn on spontaneously or remain stuck on high. My specific unit was manufactured more recently than the original 2022 recall window, demonstrating that this dangerous component defect or manufacturing flaw still exists in newer production batches currently being sold to consumers. This failure creates an immediate, severe fire and burn hazard. Because the burner bypasses user input and runs at maximum temperature instantly, it can rapidly overheat cookware, flash-fry cooking oils, generate heavy smoke, and cause immediate thermal burns to unsuspecting users who expect a "low" or "medium" temperature setting. The appliance cannot be used safely in this condition, as it requires constant physical monitoring to prevent an active kitchen fire. I am submitting this
