Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260915-0F82B-2147309932. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: GE GE Cafe Dishwasher (GE Cafe Dishwasher Model# CDT805P2NS1 SN# MS792671B). Incident: When running our Cafe Dishwasher Model (CDT805P2NS1) SN# MS792671B last Thursday September 10 2026 around 10 pm. We found our entire Kitchen to be filled with smoke and a heavy burning smell. We immediately stopped the dishwasher and unplugged the power cord. I then opened up all windows and put some fans to help remove the toxic fumes. I then told my wife to get her and my son out of the house and stay the night with a family member. I stayed at home until I got our animals secured in the garage away from all the toxic smoke. I then left as well and when I came back the next day our house still had a heavy burning plastic smell. I took our animals with me and stayed with our family until Saturday. I was lucky to be home and notice this so I could stop this before it caused a larger fire and more damage or even worse all those toxic fumes to be released while we slept. This is our second unit the 1st one was replaced due to issues before. There was 2 wheels that melted I found stuck on the heating element that fell off randomly? I threw away all the dishes that were in the unit because they were exposed to the toxic fumes from this incident. I feel this unit is not only dangerous but could potentially cause health issues due to toxic fumes. We contacted GE and they dont seem to be taking this seriously I really feel this unit needs to be recalled for this issue before someone else is not so lucky.
