I am reporting a serious safety defect involving repeated engine stalling and failure to restart associated with the auto idle stop/start system on a 2025 Acura MDX. The vehicle was leased in December 2024. Beginning in late summer and early fall of 2025, the vehicle intermittently shut off at stops and failed to restart when releasing the brake. This resulted in the vehicle becoming unresponsive in active traffic conditions, creating a significant safety hazard. The vehicle was presented to an authorized dealer for this issue on multiple occasions: August 15, 2025 September 9, 2025 October 31, 2025 After repeated unsuccessful attempts to diagnose and repair the condition, the dealer ultimately replaced the starter on October 31, 2025. This repair did not permanently resolve the issue. In April 2026, the vehicle again began exhibiting hesitation and delayed engine restart following auto idle stop events. On April 30, 2026, the vehicle stalled again, demonstrating that the defect persists despite prior repair efforts. This condition is intermittent and unpredictable, which increases the risk, as the vehicle may fail to restart when entering or crossing intersections or when moving with traffic. The inability of the vehicle to reliably restart creates a clear safety concern. Given the repeated repair attempts and recurrence of the defect, this appears to be a systemic issue rather than an isolated component failure.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11751959

The vehicle developed repeated front‑end structural and steering problems shortly after purchase. During normal driving, it produced loud popping, creaking, and clunking noises when turning, entering driveways, or driving over small inclines. Steering felt inconsistent and the front suspension felt unstable. These symptoms created a serious risk of loss of control. A dealer confirmed the problem multiple times and replaced several major components, including the left front strut, the left front lower control arm, and the front shock absorber fork. The most serious finding was cracked welds in the front subframe, requiring the entire subframe to be replaced. A cracked subframe weld is a structural failure that can affect steering stability and crashworthiness. The issues were reproduced and documented by the dealer on multiple visits. The manufacturer’s engineering team was involved due to the severity and difficulty of diagnosis. Despite repeated repairs and extended time out of service, the same steering and suspension symptoms continued, and the vehicle was returned multiple times with ongoing issues. There were no warning lights or messages before the failures. The defects occurred during low‑speed maneuvering and normal driving conditions. The vehicle did not perform like a safe, structurally sound new vehicle, and the repeated structural and steering failures pose a safety risk to occupants and others on the road.

My 2025 Acura MDX suffers from a severe safety defect regarding the Auto Idle Stop (auto start-stop) system. When the vehicle comes to a complete stop at intersections or traffic lights, the engine shuts off as intended. However, upon releasing the brake pedal to accelerate, the engine completely fails to auto-restart.Instead of restarting, the vehicle drops out of the auto-restart sequence entirely, shifts itself out of drive, and displays a critical safety message on the dashboard: "To start engine: Brake + Push".This completely strands the vehicle in live traffic, forcing me to manually shift into Park, press the foot brake, and push the engine start button while traffic accumulates behind me. This creates an immediate rear-end collision hazard. The dealership has already attempted to diagnose and repair this issue under warranty by replacing both the vehicle's battery. This hardware replacement did not fix the problem; the failure continues to occur unpredictably less than a week (and 25 miles) after replacement. The root cause appears to be a software, Powertrain Control Module (PCM), or sensor tracking defect where the vehicle fails to recognize it is in an automated restart sequence.I am filing this complaint to be officially included in the ongoing NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25004 regarding Honda/Acura Auto Idle Stop failures, as the current hardware recall remedies are entirely ineffective for the 2025 model year.

Last year, my 2025 Acura MDX was repaired under warranty for a known starter issue that is affecting all 2025+ MDX models. The issue is that the vehicle will stall or fail to start on random occasions leaving drivers stranded or stopped in traffic unable to move their vehicle. Honda and Acura are well aware of the fact that this is an issue, yet they continue to produce these vehicles with the same parts. This repair took several attempts and the dealership refused to even diagnose the issue for several months causing me to have to record each instance on my phone for proof. Once they eventually replaced the starter, the issue went away for approximately 10 months. Today, however, I was temporarily left stranded at a gas pump as my vehicle would not start. Honda and Acura dealerships are replacing these parts with the exact same part number, so the no-start condition comes back in about a year or less. It is incredibly dangerous to have a vehicle that you cannot move as anticipated, or if you’re in an area that you cannot leave or get away from potential danger because your vehicle won’t start. This is a less-than two-year-old vehicle that has now left me stranded on several occasions including in the middle of traffic on a motorway. I know for a fact that several other owners of the Acura MDX are having the exact same issue and ask that you please launch an investigation into this as Honda is well aware of it and still refuses to address the blatant safety risk it poses to its customers.

The idle-stop function would frequently malfunction. I would be at a stop, which would trigger the idle-stop function and the car would turn off, but when I released my foot off the break in preparation for needing to start moving, the car would stall and shut completely off. There was about a five second delay before I could get the car to turn back on and start moving, which was very scary with traffic all around me. After the malfunction occurred several times, I would try to remember to turn off the idle-stop function using dynamic mode. I called my local Acura dealership about this problem and the service manager said that he wasn’t sure what was wrong nor did he know how to fix it. He advised me to just wait and hope that Acura issues a recall for the issue. Then, I started noticing that there was a delay in my vehicle starting when pressing the start button. It wasn’t too long of a delay but enough for me to notice. Since the car would ultimately start, I didn’t think too much about it, until my car failed to turn on. It has happened when I turn off my car but then need to turn it back on soon after turning it off. I’ll press the start button and the lights on the dash come on and I can hear the engine trying to turn on but it doesn’t. The engine won’t crank up. I have to let it sit for a few seconds (30 sec?) and then try to turn it on again, at which time I have been lucky that it will turn on, but the initial start-up sounds like a struggle. It doesn’t sound like a healthy start up for 2025 vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11703162

i purchased the vehicle March of 2025. Since I have been to the dealership on multiple occasions. I was there less than a week after purchase because there was a noise coming from the front tire the dealership balanced the tire. The noise was still there so i returned and the next time they replaced the front wheel bearings. I still have issues with the steering wheel shaking so they replaced all 4 tires. The problem still persists but they don’t know why. the car feels unsafe to drive especially on the highway and in rain. i have had the recall for the brake pin assembly addressed and fixed. I also have issues with the audio shutting off or not responding the dealer did a hard reset and an update to the software that has not resolved the issue. The car would turn off at random times and struggle to turn back on when the idle shut off was activated. the dealer replaced the starter. i have had issues with the car randomly braking when there is nothing in front of me and other safety features either not working at all or working when not needed. dealer advised it was a faulty battery and replaced it. I currently am still having shaking with loud noises especially at higher speed. The engine is very hesitant when accelerating and i struggle to merge onto the highway. It is also extremely jerky at lower gears and its most noticeable in stop go traffic. The brakes are squealing already and the mileage is low. I also sometimes need to press the brakes hard to even stop. The screen often goes black or will not connect to anything and i am unable to see directions or hear music. i feel extremely unsafe in this car and have anxiety every time i need to have anyone in the car with me

I am writing to formally report a serious and recurring safety defect with my 2025 Acura MDX A-Spec (VIN [XXX]) involving the Auto Idle Stop system. The engine repeatedly fails to restart after the Auto Idle Stop feature shuts it off. When my wife releases the brake pedal (for example, at a traffic light), the vehicle either stalls completely or experiences a major delay before restarting sometimes lasting more than 20 seconds, leaving the my wife unable to accelerate. This creates an immediate and unacceptable safety hazard, particularly in intersections or heavy traffic. I previously brought the vehicle to Acura of Langley regarding this exact issue. Despite that visit, the problem has continued. Most recently, on today, while my wife was driving with my kids, the vehicle again entered Auto Idle Stop at a traffic light. When the light turned green, the engine completely shut off and would not restart for more than 20 seconds. This left her stranded in traffic and unable to move the vehicle, creating a clear risk of collision. This is not an isolated complaint. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened Engineering Analysis EA25004 into precisely this condition “No Restart After Auto Start/Stop Engages” affecting, among other models, 2016–2025 Acura MDX vehicles. American Honda has also issued dealer communications specifically seeking 2023–2025 MDX vehicles with client complaints of no auto re-start after Auto Idle Stop for inspection prior to any repair attempts. Class-action investigations and prior litigation involving related Idle Stop failures further underscore the known nature and seriousness of this defect. My 2025 Acura MDX randomly turns off when in Auto Stop/Start mode at stoplights and I have to restart it. After it happen twice, my husband took it to the dealer, and they could not find anything wrong with it. It happened a third time and this time the dealer kept it for a week. They found nothing so their system doesn't detect problems well. I had their loaner, a 2025 MDX A-Spec. I was driving the vehicle into a parking space at my office which faces a 4-lane highway. My foot was on the brake, and I was 2/3rds into the space. Suddenly the car lunges forward, revs up and takes off over the curb, over 3 bushes and down a sloped hill into the highway. I could not stop the vehicle! My hands were on the steering wheel and my foot on the brake as I was bracing for impact with another vehicle. Thankfully there were no cars in the lane! As I entered the right lane a car passed by me. The engine then revved down, and I was able to gain control of the car and pull into the parking lot. I have met with the managers at the dealership. They still cannot find what's wrong with my car as the computer doesn't show anything. They have run a test on the loaner car as well and said they could not find any issues with it either. They are calling in an engineer to inspect the loaner car. I or someone else could have been badly injured or killed! I feel the MDX A-Spec I was driving is a deadly vehicle, and I do not want this to happen to anyone else!! There were no warning messages or problems prior to the incidence My hope is that there would be an investigation into this vehicle and into Honda/Acura to see it there is safety issues with their vehicles. The photos are of the area the incident happened. The dealer has the vehicle. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

BACK OVER PREVENTION

6 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11705339

I am a three-time Acura owner currently leasing a 2025 Acura MDX through Honda/Acura. On or about 12/02/2025, at approximately 16,297 miles, a front parking sensor fell out of the front bumper while I was driving. I am concerned that this reduces the reliability of the front parking/safety system and could put safety at risk if a driver relies on the sensors to detect obstacles at low speeds (parking, maneuvering, etc.) while the hardware is no longer properly secured. There was no crash or injury in this incident, but the failure affected a safety-related system on a low-mileage vehicle. Before I noticed the sensor was missing, the front alert on the dashboard began going off repeatedly while I was driving, even though there was nothing in front of the vehicle. That was the first indication that something was wrong with the system. Only after I parked and inspected the front of the vehicle did I see that the front parking sensor had come out of the bumper, which confirmed the source of the problem. The problem was inspected and confirmed by an authorized Acura dealer, who diagnosed broken internal mounting clips on the front sensor. The dealer and manufacturer attributed the failure to “outside influence” (implying that I must have hit something), but no impact damage or other physical evidence was found on the front of the vehicle. The front remains normal and pristine with no dents, cracks, gouges, chips, or distortion of the bumper, paint, grille, or sensor area. I am concerned that a likely part or installation failure on a low-mileage vehicle is being dismissed as “outside influence” based purely on assumption rather than documented physical evidence. In effect, an unproven assumption is being treated as fact, which could allow similar front sensor or mounting failures on other vehicles to be written off as external damage instead of being investigated as a potential durability or design issue with the front sensor mounting.

on 8/24, I purchased an acura mdx 2025 technology package. We drove home from the dealer, my mother heard a rattling noise but thought it was the car seat making the noise. The next day,I heard the noise again,it was coming from the right, rear back,I checked, and saw the wheel liner loose and thought the noise was being cause by a loose liner. My mother said we had to go back to the dealer on 8/31 to pick up the wheel lock and weather mats and we would have them check the liner. As the week went by,the noise was more often. On the way to the dealer, we could hear the noise after every bump or turning right. We gave this information to the dealer,we said we thought it was a loose liner but were not sure anymore as the rattling was more often. We did not feel safe driving home. They provided us a loaner and said they would look into it.On 9/4 they sent a text that the rear sway bar link was faulty, the part was ordered and the car should be ready by Friday. My mom emailed them to ask if by faulty, they meant it was loose or broken, they checked and said it was broken. It was expressed to them that this was concerning because it was a brand new vehicle, that we felt blessed that we decided to leave the car,had we driven back home, God knows what could have happened since a broken link can cause you to lose control and get into an accident. We asked if they would report it to the manufacturer or NHTSA? They did not reply. But text a day after stating that we must have gone through a pothole at high speed or hit something, and we were liable for the cost. After my mother sent an email and spoke with them saying that if it was not caused by us,that if the issue was there, was it caused during transporting the car from The manufacturer to the dealer?they said that the car was fixed and there would be no charge but kept insisting that we were at fault, that it happens alot, where people walk out of the dealer and come back with something broken the next day. I am submitting this complaint regarding my **2025 Acura MDX**, which I currently lease. The vehicle has an ongoing starting system malfunction that has not been resolved despite multiple service visits. I believe this issue presents a significant safety risk. The primary issue involves the **Auto Idle Stop/Auto Start-Stop system**. When the vehicle automatically shuts off at a red light, stop sign, or while idling, it will occasionally fail to restart when I release the brake or attempt to accelerate. Instead of restarting normally, the vehicle hesitates, stutters, or remains off. This creates a dangerous situation because the vehicle is unexpectedly disabled while in traffic, increasing the risk of being rear-ended or causing an accident. In addition to the Auto Idle Stop issue, the vehicle also has problems during the initial startup. When I attempt to start the vehicle using the push-button ignition, it frequently fails to start on the first attempt. I often have to press the start button a second time before the engine starts, and even then, the engine stutters or hesitates before finally turning over. This should not occur in a brand-new 2025 vehicle. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership multiple times for this issue: * During the first visit, I was told the battery was the cause. * During the second visit, the starter was replaced. * After the problem continued, I returned again. The dealership tested both the battery and the replacement starter and advised that both components were operating properly. * The dealership then opened a case with Honda/Acura engineering for further investigation. Despite these repeated repair attempts, the issue remains unresolved. I have been told that it is likely a software issue and that engineers are "looking into it." In the meantime, I was instructed to simply disable the Auto Idle Stop feature every time I start the vehicle. This is not an acceptable solution. I do have videos but it will now allow me to up

I own a 2025 Acura MDX A-Spec purchased in XXX from John Eagle Acura in [XXX]. The vehicle has less than 10,000 miles. Component/system: The Auto Idle Stop/start system has malfunctioned. During the past week, the engine unexpectedly shut off while stopped at red lights and stop signs approximately 4–5 times. When it was supposed to restart, the vehicle sometimes failed to restart normally and required multiple attempts. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: These incidents occurred at intersections while I was stopped in traffic. When the engine failed to restart, I was unable to immediately proceed while vehicles were behind me, creating a potential collision and traffic hazard. I regularly have my two young children in the vehicle, making this especially concerning. Dealer inspection: I brought the vehicle to John Eagle Acura after experiencing the problem. The service advisor indicated that this is a known issue, and the vehicle was serviced for the concern. The failure occurred repeatedly in real-world driving, but I do not know whether the dealer was able to reproduce it during inspection. Manufacturer/other inspection: The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Acura dealership. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. Warnings/symptoms: I received no prior notification or warning from Acura regarding this issue. The first incidents occurred during the week before my dealership visit. The engine shut off while stopped and then did not restart normally. I did not observe a warning lamp or message specifically indicating that the vehicle would fail to restart. After experiencing the problem, I learned that NHTSA has an ongoing investigation, EA25-004, involving Auto Idle Stop failures on Honda and Acura vehicles, including 2023–2025 Acura MDX models. I am submitting this complaint so these repeated incidents can be documented as part of NHTSA's review. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FRE
