Brand-new 2023 GR86 automatic lost all power at 31,000 miles with an ugly engine sound and would not crank afterward. Toyota found engine knock and cited a single overrev code logged at 9,000 miles (about 7,400 rpm at 38 mph) to deny warranty; a third-party shop said that code alone would not explain the failure without opening the engine.
