SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250821-4BCDA-2147328470. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire Model EFIC256-Navy (Frigidaire Nugget ice makers Model EFIC256-Navy Blue Brand Frigidaire Model EFIC256-NAVY Manufacturer Part Number EFIC256-NAVY Power Type Corded Electric Volts 120 V Condition New Manufacturer CURTIS INTERNATIONAL LTD. Maximum Output 1 lb Volume Capacity 1 gal Accessories Included Ice scoop and drip tray Ice Type Ice Nuggets). Incident: I have a serious concern and formal complaint regarding a Frigidaire ice maker, Model EFIC256, which I purchased from Walmart in May 2024. The unit functioned properly for over a year. I have diligently followed all maintenance instructions and have only used double-filtered water to ensure its longevity and cleanliness. Recently, however, the machine began to produce an unusual noise. After an initial cleaning did not resolve the issue, I decided to remove the side panels to investigate further. To my shock and disgust, upon opening the unit, I discovered an extensive amount of mold growth inside. It appears that condensation from the compressor combined with the warmth of the motor, created a breeding ground for this hazardous mold. This is not only a major defect but also a severe health hazard. I initially contacted Frigidaire regarding this issue and was directed to Curtis International. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this, I have been met with various excuses and a lack of urgency. The serious health risks associated with a household appliance producing a product for consumption while harboring mold have not been adequately addressed.
