Microwave Ovens (264)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 22, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190727-C09FF-2147379637. Matched catalog product: GE PEB7226SF2SS. Incident: We purchased a brand new home in 2017 that has all GE appliances. Today our microwave caught on fire without any type of metal being in it. My wife had to run into the garage to get me, she had a bowl of butter that she was trying to melt. I know that appliances break, but they should not be catching on fire within two years of being purchased new. Something needs to be done to ensure the safety of our public. What would have happened if one of my daughters had been using it while we were at work? GE says that their warranty is good for one year and thats fine, but to have appliances catch on fire before two years is crazy.
