SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240814-506FD-2147337220. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Matched catalog product: LG LRE4215ST. Source model text: LRE421***. Incident: My cat activated my LG stovetop by nudging a front-mounted knob. Thankfully I was home when this happened. As I had placed a hat and gloves on the stovetop, a fire was started, which I was able to extinguish. Minor smoke inhalation occured to both me and my brother. Unfortunately I now have a clump of melted polyester adhered to the top of the flat glass surface, and cannot use said electric burner.

Electric Ranges or Ovens (Excl Counter-top Ovens) (278)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220829-23154-2147354142. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LRE4215ST (LG electric range with ceramic cook top. Stainless steel). Incident: The stove top burner knobs on our LG range can be easily turned on by inadvertently bumping them when working in front of the stove. This has caused several near-fires (smoldering items on the cook top) Yesterday, a wet cleaning rag was on a burner to try to loosen built up residue on that burner. The next thing I know, my wife is yelling for me as the rag caught fire. She had inadvertently bumped the knob when putting something in the microwave and it ignited. I extinguished the flame and turned off the burner. The knobs are supposed to be pushed in to turn them on but that seems to happen too easily. We had this happen a few times the first year we had the stove but once we became aware of the problem, we tried to be very careful but they turn on much too easily. Yesterday was the first time we actually ended up with open flames. I reported the issue to LG shortly after the stove was delivered but got no help. Today I called and insisted on a report being filed. Their advice is to not use the stove for now. I'm to the point where I want to just get a new stove but I can not in good conscience offer my stove to someone else knowing what I do.
