SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190130-455A9-2147383011. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung UN40F5500AF (Samsung Television, I believe 40 inch.). Incident: I was awakened at 0430 this morning by a strange burning plastic smell. I was unable to figure it out after unplugging just about everything in my room but a lamp and the Samsung TV, and assumed the smell was coming from outside and went back to bed. I then woke up at 0645, turned on the TV and began to get ready for work. The smell became stronger, I unplugged the lamp, looked at the TV and the top half of the screen was turning black and the smell was becoming increasingly stronger. I immediately unplugged the TV. This TV sits on top of a tall dresser with nothing to block the flow of air surrounding the TV 02/25/2019 - Additional Information: The risk associated with this fire and health/lung issues. I was coughing, felt out of sorts and nauseous for the entire day after the incident. The TV had smoke from the back and sides and the screen was turning increasingly black. Please let me know if you need further information. This TV is a fire hazard.
