Government / agencyIndexed Oct 22, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20171203-25335-2147394855. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Traeger Unknown. Current model is "Tailgater". Source model text: Tailgater. Incident: Traeger Tailgater wood pellet smoker grill does not hold temperature. If the flame goes out or temp goes low the grill continues to feed pellets into the grill. Once this happens the pot where the pellets burn become over filled and then hot ash reegyntes the pellets causing extreme temperatures and at a final point the excessive smoke in the grill will Egnyte and blow the lid open from the heat and pressure. It is only a matter of time before this grill causes serious damage or death. This is not user error, the grill simply does not posses the proper safety features to prevent this from happening.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201012-85862-2147369272. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Traeger Unknown. Current model is "Tailgater" (Traeger Pellet Grill Model Unknown. Current model is "Tailgater"). Incident: Pellet grill purchased at Costco March 2018. Worked fine for about six months and then began having issues with control. Would sometimes not light and sometimes would intermittently shut down. About one month ago, it caught fire when transitioning from the start up "smoke" stetting to cook temperature. Used a fire extinguisher to put out he fire. Thoroughly cleaned the grill after which, the unit functioned properly for about three more uses. On 10/11/2020, on attempt to use the grill it caught fire again. My adult son attempted to extinguish the fire. The smoke was so thick that he was having a difficult time locating the electric plug to remove power from the unit. About the time he located the plug, there was a flash that had enough force to blow the lid to the grill open at which time flames were visible. This had potential for property damage due to fire as well as personal injury from burns.
