Injury-related incident

Solid Room Deodorizers or Fresheners (974)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20131120-AAA82-2147449744. Severity: Injury, Hospital Admission. Matched catalog product: Scentsy 1112-23134 Cream Tulip Lampshade Warmer. Incident: Ok, I have to share this because I have several scented-wax warmers (mine are Scentsy) and had no idea how dangerous they could be. Last week my 2-year-old niece [REDACTED] was chasing her kitty under the kitchen table and got tangled in the Scentsy cord that was plugged in. The Scentsy tipped over, and the wax spilled and ran off the table onto [REDACTED] 's neck and back. She has 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her scalp, neck and back, which may need skin grafting in order to heal. She will certainly be scarred. In many of the Scentsy faq's it says "The wax temperature is very low, just above body temperature. The wax never gets hot enough to burn anyone so it is completely safe around pets and kids." I put the candy thermometer in mine just to see how hot it was and it read 140 degrees F. That's hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns in 5 seconds. There needs to be warnings about burns on the Scentsy warmers like there are on some other brands.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201225-F787B-2147367242. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Scentsy 1112-23134 Cream Tulip Lampshade Warmer. Source model text: Unknown. Incident: Our fire department was dispatched to a residential structure for a report of smoke from the HVAC ducts. Upon arrival, on scene personnel determined that a "Scentsy" scented wax warmer in the bathroom of the home had caught fire and was actively burning and producing moderate smoke. Personnel on scene smothered the fire, and removed the warmer to outdoors. Damage to the device made identification impossible, and the device was left with the resident for disposal. No flame damage resulted from the incident; however, minor smoke damage was present throughout the structure.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260824-E890E-2147312001. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Scentsy 1112-23134 Cream Tulip Lampshade Warmer (Product Class: Electric Wax Melt Warmer Manufacturer: Scentsy, Inc. (Meridian, Idaho) Model Number: 1112-23134 (Bronze Broad Base) Product Name: Cream Tulip Lampshade Warmer). Incident: The electrical socket on the plug-in wax warmer suffered a severe manufacturing defect/electrical short during standard operation. The failure generated excessive heat that actively melted the metal and plastic base of the lightbulb inside the unit, creating an immediate fire and safety hazard. Use of the product had to be permanently discontinued to prevent a household fire. The manufacturer was contacted directly under Ticket #[REDACTED]. The manufacturer verified the product's identity and the severe safety failure but refused to properly honor their Lifetime Safety/Replacement Warranty. Instead, they demanded that I physically destroy the safety evidence (by cutting the power cord) in exchange for an inadequate 18-dollar clearance credit that fails to replace the utility or class of the defective full-size warmer. I retained the intact physical evidence for federal safety review.
