Microwave Ovens (264)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20121203-1D54D-2147461379. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid Model KSGB900ESS. Source model text: Superba. Incident: I have a KitchenAid Superba microwave/wall oven combo. The model number is KEMC308KSS0 and the serial number is XL5004852. This problem comes up at least once a week. This morning it was damaging and dangerous. The door to on microwave has a hook on both sides, this is to latch it closed. The hook sticks up about one inch and clothes catch on the hook. Sweaters, bathrobes anything long sleeved or your arm itself. This morning I was taking boiling soup from the microwave and my sleeve caught on the door and the soup went flying all over my hand and the floor. I now have painful burns on my hand. I've done a brief internet search and know I am nit the only one with this problem. I also understand KitchenAid has changed their design, eliminating the hooks. Unfortunately for those of us who can't afford to buy a new wall unit we are stuck with this hazard.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150227-5980D-2147435008. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid Model KSGB900ESS. Source model text: KitchenAid Architect Series II 30" Slide in Gas Range. Incident: After finishing cooking for the evening and tidying up the kitchen I heard the igniters on our 31/2 year old KitchenAid Architect Series II , KGSS907SWH02, 30" Slide In Gas Range spontaneously start. The gas knobs were all in the off position. Within about 40 seconds of the igniters continually firing we could not believe it when we heard the igniter in the oven turn on. Not only did it turn on, but it also turned on the gas in the oven and the broiler flame started. We could not believe our eyes. The broiler flame was very strong and had there been anything left in the oven even on the medium rack it would have caught on fire. This was at about 10pm. Scared for the safety of our family we evacuated our two kids and two pets from the house, had the fire extinguisher on hand and ready as we had no idea what this gas range was spontaneously doing. My husband then ran downstairs to cut the electricity from the electric panel. The sparking stopped and the flame disappeared. As we did not know what issues were causing the gas to spontaneously start we were concerned that there could also be a gas leak overnight. With limited options available at that time of night my husband pulled out the stove and manually turned the gas supply valve off behind the stove and we left the breaker turned off at the electric panel. We brought our kids back in the house and set up the carbon monoxide detector closer to the stove...just in case. This was a terrifying issue affecting the safety of our
