Charcoal or Wood-burning Grills (3218)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210423-A9CD3-2147364545. Severity: Injury, Emergency Department Treatment Received. Matched catalog product: Weber Weber Genesis E330 6531001. Source model text: Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill 22". Incident: Purchased Weber Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill 22" four years ago. The fasteners that connect the three legs to the kettle seemed flimsy, but I installed them per the directions. They did not hold up. My wife moved the grill on April 13, 2021 and the front leg collapsed because the fastener had deteriorated. The force of the kettle lid falling onto her hand (she was holding the handle) BROKE HER FINGER. I checked the remaining legs and the fasteners had also deteriorated, providing no solid support between the three legs and the kettle. POOR DESIGN AND AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

Incident: Weber Smokefire EX4 pellet grill does not control fire or temperature safely. Temperature goes way high and pellets fall into grease, causing hugh fire in grill. Also, pellets back up on feed slide and catch fire outside of fire box. Many reviews on Amazon report similar experiences.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20131008-802F5-2147451096. Matched catalog product: Weber Weber Genesis E330 6531001. Source model text: E330. Incident: 2013 Weber genesis gas grill knobs turn on too easily when putting cover on grill causing gas leak. There is little resistance to turn the knob like on other gas grills or stoves. I store my grill near an air intake vent for my furnace room, so when the gas is accidentally turned on, the gas leaks into my basement near the furnace creating a potentially dangerous situation.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120513-6DE4B-2147467645. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Weber Weber Genesis E330 6531001 (Weber Genesis E-330 Liquid Propane Gas Grill Model 6531001). Incident: I have a Weber Genesis grill and was using it a few days ago (5/5/2012). The fuel hose caught on fire which melted the rubber hose. A hole erupted on the hose that then spewed propane out until I was able to shut it off. Upon investigation, I determined that Weber incorrectly assembled the hose. The rubber hose from the propane tank is connected to what they call a bulkhead. From the bulkhead a metal flex tube is connected to route the fuel to the grill and side burner. On this bulkhead they inserted the rubber hose where the metal one should have been. The rubber hose touched the hot grill tray which caused the fire. I was fortunate, this could have been much worse. Repeated calls and e-mails to Weber have not been positive. They refuse to accept responsibility which is why I am reporting this issue. I am concerned that there may be other grills with the same issue. Regards, [REDACTED]
