SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120927-E953F-2147463362. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Sony Vaio VPCF115FM. Source model text: VPCF115FM. Incident: I have a sony vaio laptop computer model VPCF115FM. Sony issued a recall on this computer due to a potential burn hazard. Sony states that by downloading a BIOS update, it will fix the problem. My computer will not accept the BIOS update as it says that my BIOS is up to date. My computer has over heated and shut down over 10 times. the computer gets so hot that you cannot touch the left hand side of the keyboard and you cannot put it on your lap as it will burn you. I have called sony and was told that i needed to send my computer to them, however, since my warranty is expired it will cost me 200-300 dollars to fix the computer. I want to fix the computer as this would be cheaper than buying a brand new one, however, I dont understand why I have to pay to have a recalled item fixed. If they know there is a problem with this series of computers and their fix did not fix my item, I would think they should be responsible for the computer. Anytime in the past that i have dealt with a recall, you take the product to the manufactured and they fix the problem free of charge, warranty or not. I will be happy to pay shipping to ship the computer back to sony but i just dont understand why i have to pay several hundreds of dollars to have it fixed when it was recalled by them in the first place and their supposed BIOS fix did not fix this model.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110810-DBBAB-2147476391. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Matched catalog product: Sony Vaio VPCF115FM. Source model text: SONY VPCF115FM. Incident: I am writing this in order to prevent anyone else getting hurt. I bought my SONY VPCF115FM MAY 2010 from Best Buy. I noticed immediately how the fan ran all of the time and felt hot.. I bought a Logitec desk with a fan hoping this would fix the problem. It didn't. I received an email 7-8-10 and 8-13-10 from Sony instructing me to update the BIOS firmware. It did not help the problem. Over time, the computer became worse, now it gets so hot that it shuts down. When you touch the computer, it is hot. I wrote a complaint to Sony. They emailed me a long distance number that I called and waited on hold for fifteen minutes. After hanging up, I tried to call the next day with the same holding time. I attempted the call the following day, after holding ten minutes, finally, someone answered the line. After a long discussion with the Customer Service Rep., he reluctantly agreed to send me a box to ship it to Sony to repair. This was over three weeks ago, I don't have a box! All I receive is emails instructing me to call the long distance number. This makes the third Sony Lemon that I bought! Only this time, this product is a FIRE HAZARD! Sony has the worst Customer Service. In the mean time, I can't use my lap top for more than thirty minutes without it becoming too hot to touch or crashing. After researching on the internet, I noticed many people have this same issue and they also complain that the Customer Service has been worthless. Today was the final straw, I actually burnt my ha

Source model text: Sony Vaio VPCF115FM/B. Incident: Laptop runs so hot it leaves heat impressions on things around it (even with a cooling pad). The device gets so hot even after only a couple minutes that it burns the skin on my writs from typing. The computer screen turned blue and now has a black screen. I am concerned this thing will cause a fire and/or cause injuries.

It has always overheated, but about 6 months ago I started searching for a solution. I found the safety warning and BIOS update here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=401&mdl=VPCF115FM. Although I installed the BIOS update, nothing changed.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130908-18F60-2147452208. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: Sony Vaio VPCF115FM (Sony Vaio vpcf115fm Black Laptop). Incident: I bought the Sony Vaio VPCF115FM from Best Buy in July of 2009. The very first day I had the Vaio, I experienced overheating problems. After doing some research, these notebook computers may overheat due to a potential malfunction of the internal temperature management system, resulting in deformation of the product's keyboard or external casing, and a potential burn hazard to consumers. The information about the recall is found on the Sony website at: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?template_id=1&news_id=401. According to the recall page: "If you have one of the VPCF11 or VPCCW2 series models, Sony recommends that you download and install a firmware update specifically designed to prevent the potential overheating symptom." After downloading the firmware update and install, the only thing that I noticed that was different was that the fans would run at full speed all the time. Whether I was browsing the web or watching a movie, the noisy fan would be running at 100%. This update did not fix my problem. I was still getting temperature readings above 100 degrees Celsius (the temperature at which water boils). This laptop gets so hot, that it will cause a burn if set on your lap. This is not only a safety hazard but a fire hazard. Whenever my Vaio reaches processor temperatures of over 100 degrees Celsius, it shuts off due to overheating. I currently own a business repairing computers, networking businesses, building custom PC's, and doing web design. I have a bachelors degree in computer science and minored in information systems. Basically, I have a well rou
