SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170208-24745-2147407251. Matched catalog product: GE CGS990SET3SS. Incident: Purchased GE Cafe CGS990SET3SS from Home Depot June 2014. The lower oven has failed twice from the deflector shield melting on the igniter glow bar, burning out the glow bar. The second event fried the control panel digital glass touch panel. This is an ongoing problem and we have continued to replace parts. We are on the second igniter glow bar and second deflector heat shield.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160116-7C0C9-2147424632. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: GE CGS990SET3SS. Incident: I purchased a GE cafe series gas stove. I have had this product just under three years. This is a double oven and recently the bottom oven didn't work. I determined that the issue was the igniter, a common issue when gas ovens don't work. I proceeded to remove the bottom tray of the oven to access the igniter. What I found was that underneath the bottom tray and directly over the igniter is a steel deflector shield. This shield had gotten so hot from the igniter that it had melted a hole through it. The melted steel dripped on the igniter and caused it to burn out. I do believe that this is a defect in the stove and a potential fire hazard. Ge representatives state that this is a normal occurrence and they refuse to cover it as a defect in their product.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180421-00986-2147388459. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: General Electric CGS990SET3SS (GE Cafe Stove model CGS990SET3SS I have saved 2 of the deflector shields that have holes blown threw them. Also, Troy Fire Dept responded to our home on 4/13/18.). Incident: For our GE Cafe Stove CGs990SET3SS, we have the igniter fail 4 times and it has burned a hole in the deflector plate on numerous occasions. it appears the igniter is too close to the deflector plate. The recent technician installed some type of modification. Then awe used it to cook a pizza and my CO carbon monoxide alarms went off in my house 3 times. We called the fire department ( Troy Fire Dept) on 4/13/18 and they told us to get out of the house. Upon their arrival, they found out that now the oven is not working properly and emitting Carbon monoxide gas. We called GE and the sent a technician to our home. He didn't even take a look inside the unit. I had shutoff the gas line. There are numerous complaints within the websites on this problem. GE need to replace the entire oven. I feel very unsafe to operate this unit in my home.
