Reliability signal

—

5 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (5 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 12 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

Injury-related incident

Gas Ranges or Ovens (279)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250625-C97DF-2147330172. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid model KCGC506JSS00. Incident: I have a KitchenAid 36 36-inch wide 6 6-burner gas Rangetop with Three-Level Convertible Grates. The issue is that the front knobs on the gas range top turn on WAY too easily. Without knowing, you can bump into the range top and the knob will turn on enough to allow the gas to flow from the valve often filling the house with natural gas. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. This incident has occurred more than a dozen times since moving into the home in October 2024. It was not until December of 2024 that I realised the problem was coming from the gas range top knobs moving to an open position for several weeks. I contacted KitchenAid they suggested that a technician come to look at the issue, so the solution from them was to turn in a safety report. Again contacted KitchenAid and received notice that I could remove knobs each time of use, add child safety knobs, or just be careful...no solution...just a band-aid fix. In looking into this issue, I have found reviews that mentioned this same issue on this same range top for many years. I also found several reviews on the KitchenAid site with similar issues noted. In addition, I contacted my local neighborhood site and took a poll asking if any others in the development had upgraded and purchased the appliance package with this same gas rangetop. In approximately 1 week, I have received 23 comments telling of the same issue with their gas rangetop. This is a VERY DANGEROUS issue. THIS AFTERNOON my family became extremely groggy, fell asleep wi

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250607-378D4-2147330697. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: KitchenAid model KCGC506JSS00 (KitchenAid 36" 6-Burner Commercial-Style Gas Rangetop / Cooktop, model KCGC506JSS00, serial number DD4203603.). Incident: Subject: Safety Concern Report: KitchenAid Gas Cooktop Model KCGC506JSS00 (Serial Number: DD4203603) Dear U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, I am writing to bring to your attention a serious safety concern regarding my KitchenAid gas cooktop, model KCGC506JSS00, serial number DD4203603. This issue not only affects my appliance but appears to be a recurring problem across similar KitchenAid models, based on feedback I have encountered. The primary issue involves the burner controls, which can unintentionally turn on with even the slightest contact, such as brushing against them while walking by. In these instances, one of two outcomes occurs: 1. Gas flows without ignition/combustion. 2. Gas flows and ignites unintentionally. These incidents happen without deliberate user input and create an environment susceptible to severe hazards, including fire, explosion, or exposure to gas leakage. This poses a substantial threat to users' safety and well-being. I have contacted KitchenAid to address this issue but feel it is necessary to escalate this matter to your agency to ensure public safety. KitchenAids response was to remove the knobs. I urge you to investigate whether this appliance, and potentially other models with similar designs, meet current safety standards. If necessary, I request that corrective actions be taken to prevent unintentional activation of gas flow or ignition. Thank you for your attention to this critical safety matter. Please let me know if further details or actions are required from my side. Sincerely,
