SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20141002-FA9B3-2147440446. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: LG WT4801CW. Source model text: LG Model # WT4801CW. Incident: LG Brand Top Loading Laundry Machine WT4801CW with diamond glass top. I approached the machine to start a load of wash (I always keep the cover/lid in the down position) and noticed that the glass lid was shattered completely. I looked around to see if anything had fallen on it but found nothing around even though I do not keep any items stored above. When I contacted LG's customer service dept., they told me that they never heard of this happening before and I need to contact a local LG authorized service center to access the situation and see if it was due to negligence on my part or if indeed it is a defect in the glass as there is only a 1 year warranty and my machine is 2 years old. I contacted the one and only authorized service appliance repairman and they advised that it would cost me $85. 00 plus tax just to come out and look at the machine and the earliest available day would be in 5 days. This is the only authorized LG repair shop in my entire state ! He came out and all he would say is that to replace the glass top would be $277.90 plus tax ! He said I would have to call LG to see if they would cover the cost of replacing the lid since it's outside of the 1 yr. warranty. I filed a report with LG and when I followed up with them on 10/2/14 I spoke with a customer service manager and he said they cannot cover the cost of the lid since it's no longer under warranty or has not been recalled. He also stated that they are not familiar with this happening to anyone else.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140623-EFABD-2147443454. Matched catalog product: LG WT4801CW. Incident: LG top load high efficiency washer (model WT4801CW) in residential service for 2.5 years overflowed during the flooding the utility room. According to service technician the unit overflowed creating an electrical hazard because the "pressure switch line as off of the tub due to loose tub and stretched suspension". The tapered nipple on the tub to connect the hose of the pressure (water level) switch does not have any type of hose barb to prevent the tubing from slipping off. The excessive vibration from the imbalance causes the tubing to slide free and inactivate the level sensor. This is major design flaw and will eventually fail in all machines resulting in risk of injury to any consumer.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190920-8F7E0-2147377567. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG WT4801CW (White LG washing machine WT 4801CW). Incident: My top loading LG washing machine model number WT4801CW exploded before the spin cycle. The top popped off, the control panel popped open, the drum completely detached, the machine jumped up punched holes in the drywall opposite of where it was sitting that went all the way thru to the other side of the wall, and it landed outside the laundry room. There were also pieces of the plastic from the machine everywhere and it was now leaning. I only had 2 twin sized fitted sheets in the washer while it was in use. I called my home warranty company ([REDACTED]) to repair the machine and their repairman told me all the shocks were broken. They denied my claim to fix the machine stating that the damage was caused due to overloading, despite me telling them it was not even half way full and sending photos to prove it. A google search showed me that these explosions were common with LG top loaders, however, my model was not under recall. I called LG and explained to them that my incident was the same as all of the other 100's of complaints about their top loaders that I saw reported online. There was even a similar class action lawsuit for [REDACTED] machines having the same problem. In the end, LG said there was nothing they could do because the machine was over a year old (purchased 2012). I am glad I wasn't near the machine when it happened or I would have for sure been in the hospital. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard in my life, I was terrified!
