Reliability signal

5 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (5 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 21 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230813-5AED4-2147345835. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Samsung RF23R6201SR. Incident: I purchased a Samsung french door refrigerator in August 2021 because I have other Samsung appliances in my home. After about a year, my fridge started making a funny noise and I noticed ice building up in the back of the inside of the fridge. I called Samsung for service and they referred me to my local Samsung approved repair center, the only one in my area. That service center was booked for weeks and also had several negative [REDACTED] reviews. The thermostat inside my fridge reads 37 degrees, but when I place my own thermometer inside the temperature is often around 55 degrees. This is unsafe for storing foods and now that I think about it is probably the cause of some of my many gastrointestinal issues within the past year. I searched online and found several other accounts of people with the same issue. I can't believe these products haven't been recalled and that Samsung is still selling them with this known issue.

Incident: Samsung refrigerator is defective and food loss has occurred. The freezer does not operate at a good safe temperature causing good to spoil. The ice make also does not produce ice. I have contacted Samsung directly who is failing to honor their warranty, despite ownership of the refrigerator for less than 12 months.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220912-95223-2147353894. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung RF23R6201SR. Source model text: Model number is RF23r6201sr. Incident: The refrigerator icemaker has had nothing but constant issues it freezes up every couple of months and spoils food and the doors like milk and eggs. The temperature control is terrible because of the icing over of cooling system. In only one year this is happened four times I have had to call a repair man twice and the other times I had to defrost it and melt the ice with a hairdryer. This is dangerous for me because I have to keep certain medications for my pets cool at all times the variation of temperatures because of this problem is very dangerous.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210615-BE890-2147363510. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung RF23R6201SR (Samsung 22.6 cu ft Counter-Depth French Door Refrigerator with Twin Cooling Plus Model # RF23R6201SR. It is stainless steel. The dimensions are 35.75 in. (W), 31 in. (D), and 70 in. (H). Model RF23R6201SR). Incident: This is regarding our Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator (Model # RF23R6201SR). We bought it in 2019 (1 year and 9 months ago) at Costco. This morning, it made a loud screech and pop, then white smoke came out around the edge of the dispenser, and the bottom of the door (beneath the water/ice dispenser) is slightly bulging out. The smell of smoke permeated our entire house. We spent a few hours on the phone with Costco, Samsung, and Samsung's repair service, Service Quick. They were not going to come out for three days, just to look at it. When I said I felt unsafe keeping it plugged in, due to a possible fire risk, but that I had no other refrigerator to keep my toddler's milk and food cold and safe, they had no response. It is only when I posted all of this on Samsung's [REDACTED] page, that they arranged for a repairman to come look at it tomorrow. I am anticipating that they will want to replace the door, which will take time to order. I hope this will be truly safe.
