SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170204-C4742-2147407365. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Incident: My Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phone said it needed to update the operating system and I did it which took over an hour. I was surprised how long it took as I needed to make a call but was not able to on time. I was talking on the phone about two hours and had to plug it in so it did not go dead. I noticed ut was draining pretty fast and that was strange as the display turns off when talking and I had it plugged into a Samsung charger. but I had to end my call as it got too hot and noticed I was sweating just sitting talking and the person I was talking to informed ne my voice was cutting out. After the call my face felt strange and I put the phone in the freezer as it got so hot I could not hold it and it showed low battery but I could not turn it off and thr display was not responding. I went to the bathroom as I was soaking in sweat as the phone was so hot and had been by my head and I realized I had a red rectangle shaped on my face where the phone was and little water blisters. After the phone cooled down in the freezer I was able to recharge it as it had no charge and when I turned it on I could see the image of the keyboard was burnt into the screen. I over the next week noticed it no longer kept a charge for long and if left sitting doing nothing it would get really hot. I looked online and some suggested using an app to control the battery but it was no help. It keeps getting too hot and the temp shows it reaches 300 deg F. The battery drains super fast and the image of t

Incident: 1/14/2021: The cell phone was being charged for 10 - 15 minutes, when it caught fire/overheated. The night before the phone wasn't working properly and it would only charge up to 19%. The next day, he plugged the phone into the living room outlet and when he came back, smoke was emitting from the phone. He tried to grab the phone, but saw that the back had separated from the phone. He decided to take it outside and he noticed a lithium ion odor in his home. The phone was extremely hot to the touch, so he dropped it. He grabbed the phone a 2nd time and took it outside. He was able to get the battery out of the phone. However, he burned his right hand in the process. No Rx treatment was done. He used a shovel to place the phone in the snow. His home resembled a lithium ion odor for 2+ weeks. He contacted the manufacturer over 15 times and they asked for the phone back. Box sent to Corp instructed me put phone & battery in together even though they were separated. The UPS carrier refused take the battery back, because it was against the law to ship the damaged battery. The consumer claims that the carriers UPS Corporate Office said that the Samsung dealer had been shipping phone batteries through this method regularly and they should not be shipping batteries in this manner. The consumer said he spoke with UPS Corporate Office. They said they were unaware that Samsung was doing this and it was a big risk to drivers, trucks, packages, & the public. The consumer contact the manufacturer and they said that they would get in contact with the carrier and they had no knowledge of sh
