12 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (12 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 14 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20131219-654A2-2147448900. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Coby TFTV3229. Incident: I purchased 2 Coby 32" LCDTV's from Hhgregg on 6/15/2012. One is on the recall list that I plan to return this weekend. The other is the same model just different serial #. Model: TFTV3229 Serial # LGWXESBVE04T01S02. In June 2013 we were using it and it started making weird noises, loosing the picture, and started smoking. So we unplugged it and set it to the side. I wrote to the company ,But I didn't know that they went out of business until I just got the recall email from Hhgregg. I called them but because of the serial number they will not exchange it. They told me to report it here.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20131218-34596-2147448934. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Coby TFTV3229. Incident: I was recently made aware of the recall on the Coby 32 inch TV's and the list of the serial numbers you provided do not match mine however I think you should be aware that I have experienced the same issue that others are reporting. My Coby TV is sitting on a closet right now because numerous times the cord and tv would get extremely hot, to hot to touch. I still continued using the TV though until one day in September smoke started coming out of the back vents. I immediately unplugged the TV and haven't used it since.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160410-5E90B-2147420326. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Coby TFTV3229. Incident: I was watching a movie like any other night. The t.v. all of the sudden made a loud pop, kind of like a fire cracker. My screen changed colors, and went to red and gray stripes. I turned it off for a few and unplugged it. About an hour later, I went to plug it back in, and the blue light kept flickering on and off. Then I started to smell it burning, so I unplugged it. I figured it was just old so I was looking online for places to recycle it. Then I stumbled upon this recall. So I was trying to get more information on what to do.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140211-17D45-2147447366. Severity: Unspecified. Matched catalog product: Coby TFTV3229. Incident: I was sold a 32" Coby tv for $75.00. I was told that the tv "shuts off every now and then". After getting it home, it shut off 4 times in 40 minutes. Then the next day it shut off 3 times in a little over an hour. I also noticed that it would come back on by itself as well, no matter how many times I pushed the power button. This particular fact was not explained to me. So I got online and tried to find a solution to what might be going on with the tv. That's when I found out that it had been recalled for safety reasons (possible burn/fire hazard) and that resale of a recalled item was a federal offense. I immediately unplugged the tv as instructed by the website. I tried texting the woman who sold me the tv 4 times, but got no response. When I tried to call, one of her kids answered and handed her the phone, at which time she hung up on me. I've tried to explain that I rent a room from friends who have kids, and I myself have kids that come and visit me, and I do not want to put anyone in harms way with an item that is a safety hazard. This got a response from the seller saying that I was a scam artist and that I was threatening her by telling her it was a federal offense. I responded by saying that in order for me to have been remotely close to being a scam artist, I would have had to be the one selling the recalled tv. Anyway, at this point I just want to know what I should do. Did I just get conned out of $75.00 and there's nothing I can do about it?

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180223-FBD8C-2147392691. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Coby TFTV3229 (Coby 32" TFTV3229 flatscreen television). Incident: My name is [REDACTED] and about 5+ years ago I purchased a Coby 32" flatscreen television from Abt Electronics. The exact model is #TFTV3229. Over the weekend on Sunday, 02/18/2018 this television burst into flames and set fire to my bedroom home placing the lives of my 3 children, wife and myself in danger. If not for immediate action taken to remove the burning television by myself and the Rockville county fire department the entire home would've burned down. Now we have thousands of dollars of damages to our home that need repair and the traumatic experience of having a television set fire to our home. I would like to express my shock and outrage over a television that was sold to me which could burst into flames. I am only now aware that CobyUSA is out of business and that there was a recall of this television and no attempt was made by ABT electronics to contact me to ensure this dangerous television was removed. Can you please advise on how I might receive compensation for this incident?. REF: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2013/thirteen-retailers-recall-32-coby-flat-screen-televisions A claim has also been opened with our home insurance provider but I would also like to pursue compensatory damages from the retailer ABT Electronics where possible. kind regards, [REDACTED]
