I currently own a 2020 Nissan Altima with 49,186 miles and I am reporting a recurring power door lock failure. This vehicle was inspected at the Nissan of Cumming location this morning to confirm the issue. Three of the passenger-side door lock actuators have failed within a short period of time. The two rear door locks stopped working at the same time, and approximately two weeks later the front passenger door lock also stopped working. The driver's door has started to not unlock when turning the car off where it normally did up until recently. The affected doors do not respond to the interior power lock/unlock buttons or the key fob. When attempting to lock or unlock the doors electronically, I can hear the actuators attempting to operate, but the doors do not actually lock or unlock. The doors can only be locked or unlocked manually. This failure affects multiple doors and appears to be a premature component failure given the vehicle's mileage. A malfunctioning power lock system could create a safety concern if occupants are unable to quickly secure or unlock doors during an emergency situation or if electronic access is needed. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate whether there is a broader defect involving door lock actuators or the power door lock system in 2019 - 2020 Altima vehicles. I have also submitted a case with Nissan Affairs. The case number is 56942179.

Engine failure

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11701365

I am writing to request immediate assistance regarding the recall inspection for my 2020 Nissan Altima Platinum. Last week I received a letter notifying me of an open recall and instructing me to have my vehicle inspected. I brought my car to my local Nissan dealership on Saturday. During the inspection, I was told that metal debris was found in the engine and that the vehicle would need a full engine replacement. I was asked to leave the car at the dealership and was told I would receive a loaner vehicle on Monday. After waiting all day today for an update, I was informed that Nissan declined the engine replacement because the debris found did not “qualify” under the recall. I was told the dealership would clear the debris out of the engine and that I could pick up the car tomorrow. I am very concerned about this decision. Metal debris inside an engine—especially during an active recall related to engine failure—raises serious safety and reliability issues. Simply clearing out the debris does not address the root cause or provide confidence that the vehicle is safe to drive. This matter is urgent, as I must drive more than 1,000 miles soon to take my medically complex daughter to a children’s hospital. I need to trust that my vehicle is safe for long-distance travel. I am requesting a prompt review of my case and a second evaluation to determine whether an engine replacement or another appropriate remedy is necessary to ensure my vehicle’s safety.

Powertrain / transmission failure

POWER TRAIN

58 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11656442

Description of the Problem: For the past three years, my vehicle has experienced intermittent and sudden loss of power while driving, including on the highway. The issue is ongoing and has not been resolved despite having the throttle body replaced three separate times, totaling approximately $4,500 in repairs. Each replacement has resulted in the exact same malfunction: the car enters limp mode, drastically reducing power, which is especially dangerous when my children are in the vehicle. Component/Inspection: The issue appears to involve the throttle body and possibly the CVT transmission or related electrical system. The component has been replaced multiple times and is available for inspection if needed. Safety Risk: This malfunction puts my safety and the safety of my passengers at significant risk, particularly when driving at high speeds or in heavy traffic. The car's sudden loss of power makes it difficult to accelerate or maintain speed, which could easily lead to a collision/serious injury. Problem Reproduced/Confirmed: Yes. The problem has been witnessed and confirmed by Midas of Palm Bay, FL and Nissan of Melbourne, FL. Manufacturer Involvement: I reached out to Nissan, but they refused to assist with the repairs or offer any support. Warning Signs/Symptoms: Before the failure, the check engine light comes on, followed by a warning message that reads “Engine Malfunction.” Immediately after, the vehicle loses power and cannot accelerate normally.

TIRES

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11364515

Continental pro contact tire: non-road hazard tire sidewall failure on barely worn tire, potentially leading to loss of vehicle control and/or vehicle rollover. Tire concern was initially indicated with a mild (~26 PSI) low tire pressure warning. After stopping to inspect, no debris or other indication of puncture was noted, so pressure was added to return to factory settings. However, hours later and at highway speed, low tire pressure indication returned (to a similar low value in the MID-20'S, followed within minutes by sudden pressure drop and tire disintegration. Vehicle control was compromised due to sudden tire failure. Upon tire removal at side of freeway, I noted that the interior tire sidewall was missing substantial chunks of rubber, a classic "blow out." The next day a very careful inspection by local discount tire store revealed absolutely zero indication of pre-failure pressure loss: no nail or other debris punctures in any part of the remaining tire, and zero/no indication of prior low-pressure operation (which could lead to tire overheating and subsequent failure). Strongly suspect either a major construction or material defect was likely cause of this hazardous and nearly spontaneous tire failure, on a tire mounted on a new car under a year old, and with minimal tire wear. Upon submission of this complaint I will contact discount tire and request tire be retained for submission/inspection, if desired; please advise promptly if you'd like to inspect the tire.

Airbag / restraint failure

AIR BAGS

64 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11705488

On October 31, 2025, I noticed the Check engine light was on, after inspecting the car at the closest car shop the technician noticed white powder on the driver side knee airbag cover. Next morning I brought my vehicle to Temecula Nissan telling about airbag powder leakage. But this issue was completely ignored by the Advisor, who for some reason decided to fix another issue but ignoring my airbag issue concern. When I tried insisting to inspect the airbag saying:" I worry it may unexpectedly deploy or not deploy in case of a car accident. And my nose and throat are very irritated possibly because of inhaling the powder", the advisor looked at the airbag cover finally noticing the powder and said:" It's not a problem, we will wipe the powder off", despite my concerns. When I came to pick up my vehicle, I asked if my airbag issue was taken care of and documentations have been provided, I was told "Yes, we sent you a link". But it was no information about airbag inspection request or what work was done on it. I immediately went to speak with General manager of Temecula Nissan, who promised to inspect and fix the airbag issue next workday but nobody contact me since then and message I left for the manager on the phone was completely ignored. After filing a complaint to Nissan Consumer Affairs, I was told that nothing they can do about it and advised to get a second opinion from another Nissan dealership. So I did. Pedder Nissan Advisors took my concerns seriously, they said that it is dangerous to drive my vehicle in that condition, they did an inspection and took my car to replace the defective airbag.

STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES

1. Power steering cuts off while driving. Occurs intermittently -- once every two weeks or so. I am guessing that the intermittent nature of this is why more have not reported it. Warning lights show on dash indicating ABS, etc. but codes disappear when car is turned off and back on. Yes, you can inspect this. We bought a BlueDriver OBDII with an app because we couldn't capture this and the dealer couldn't recreate the problem. I have the records of the codes. We were able to get the vehicle to the dealer while still running and they are fixing it by replacing the ABS computer (at significant cost). 2. Sudden loss of power steering could result in a major accident -- especially in emergency situations, at higher speeds or if the driver was weaker/smaller. My wife drives this car, and it was a major shock when this happened. Fortunately, she was moving less than 30 mph when this happened -- and she was not trying to avoid an accident. 3. The problem has been reconfirmed by Regal Nissan Service at this time. [XXX] See above for description of how hard it was to capture this condition. 4. The component has been deemed unworking. I believe that the dealer is just replacing it, however, vs, in-depth diagnosing at the corporate level. 5. The warning lights come on at the same time the power steering stops. There is absolutely no pre-warning. We have no idea if the ABS system also stops working because conditions were dry, speed was low, no slamming on of brakes -- but I am guessing that the ABS also wouldn't work. That's a guess. I took possession of my car on 1/21/2020. The first time I used the navigation, on 2/3/2020 I missed a dentist's appointment I was going to for the first time.i entered the town then the building number and street name. The directions sent me in a completely opposite directions. On 2/25/2020 I was driving on the highway when an alert appeared on the board. It did not clarify the problem, it advised to refer to the manual. I took the car to the closest Nissan dealership, martin Nissan. The service manager, guy de leo, entered his own address, choosing the town first, and he got wrong directions as well. I contacted Nissan, and the matter was passed to the escalation department. A man by the name of james, direct telephone number 615-725-7737, called me. I explained the two problems. He stated that he would review the matter and that Nissan might replace the 2020 Altima 2.5 SL. He called me today, 2/28/2020 and told me that he spoke to guy de leo at martin Nissan, who told him that the navigation had not malfunctioned, although he saw it do so himself. As for the alert that appeared on the dashboard, he told james that he had scanned a page of the manual referring to the alert. James, just a Nissan representative, decided that since no repairs were needed the car would not be replaced. I have no other car, and I am very fearful while driving, not knowing what else will malfunction. *Ln consumer stated driving home on March 5TH, 2020 2 more incidents happened. Navigation hasn't been used for a week, would come on by itself while driving and gave directions. Also, issues with ventilation where it would change on its own. Manufacture wrote back stating car would not be replaced and car as malfunctioning and not safe.*jb

Airbag / restraint failure

POWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS

71 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11737675

This issue involves a documented and recurring safety-related defect that was reported multiple times while my vehicle was still covered under Nissan’s factory warranty related to the airbag system. My 2020 Nissan Altima currently has approximately 53,900 miles and has experienced repeated airbag/SRS failures associated with diagnostic code B1436-13, indicating an open circuit within the passenger airbag system. This issue has occurred on multiple occasions, including in 2022, 2024, 2025, and 2026. During several warranty-period service visits, the diagnostic codes were reportedly cleared, however, the underlying wiring harness issue does not appear to have been permanently corrected. I have the full history service record for this car with notes from 3 Nissan Dealers. I have documented communications with Nissan Consumer Affairs dating back to May 13, 2024 regarding this ongoing concern. In addition, I have photographic evidence showing the same airbag fault code on February 22, 2025, along with additional correspondence with Nissan dated March 18, 2025. Both of these events occurred while the vehicle remained within the applicable warranty coverage period. The airbag warning light has now returned again, and I have been presented with a repair estimate exceeding $5,200 for a condition that was previously reported and addressed unsuccessfully while the vehicle was under warranty coverage. According to Nissan’s 2020 Warranty Information Booklet, the Restraint System, including airbags and related electronic control systems, is covered under Nissan’s 5-year/60,000-mile warranty coverage. Because this safety concern was documented during the warranty period and prior repair attempts did not resolve the issue. Given that this matter involves a critical vehicle safety system that could affect passenger airbag deployment, I am hopeful this can be resolved.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11529027

What component or system failed or malfunctioned and is available for inspection upon request? On June 6th, the vehicle started losing power when accelerating, happened at night when driving back home, and scared me because there were no lights indicating any issues. The following day, less than a mile from the dealership, all the dashboard lights turned on, the vehicle lost complete power, and then i turned vehicle off and try to turn it back on but it didn't started. I called a tow truck and left it at the dealer. They informed me that they would provide me with the reason for the failure by the end of the afternoon. I was later informed by the dealership that there was an electrical problem with the transmission system. The system failure was related to a power train not getting communication due to a broken/damage wire harness that was close to the left side powertrain/engine mount. The harness was damaged because of the engine mount bolts broke and metal part of the mount cut part of the harness, creating an electrical short to the powertrain system as seen in the attached photos. This kind of short can definitely create heat into the harness that could have gotten my car to catch fire. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the same dealer informed me about the damage, and they themselves were puzzled because they couldn't find an explanation for how this could happen, but they did not take any ownership by the fact that that defective engine mount could have had me into a major accident if I was driving in the highway. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? All the work was carried out at the dealership itself. And I don't think that the dealership send any notification to the manufacturer about the early failure of such an important component but going through different mechanics shops they all share the same opinion that the......

As a true and faithful customer over the last 10 years, I'm finally throwing in the towel in regards to my recent 2020 Nissan Altima SR. With only 7500 precious miles, this car has been to the dealership over five times now, within a six month period. Constant and reoccurring issue's pertaining to the vehicles steering wheel shaking, wheel alignment and tire balancing never compted by Nissan of bayshore. I've been suffering physical and mental instability from work related duties, and this was the last thing I needed. A vehicle thats unreliable and potentially poorly manufactured. I'm going on my second windshield within three months now, and this time they won't warrant any repair. So I'm stuck footing the bill, either way I'm paying. Whether it's my insurance rates going up, or having to pay for it out of my own pocket. That's insane now, come on! See it for what it really is, the vehicle is un-operable, and un-reliable. And due to my injuries, this doesn't provide resonable accommodations for my disabilities. I'll have to confer with my legal representative, in regards to this matter. Unless you can make things right by me, and we can continue to do business together legitimately. Not like the charades, that goes on at Nissan of bayshore. By far the worst experience I've ever had with the lease of a new vehicle, especially during these difficult times. I'm sure any other car manufacturer would love to have my business, and accept my money with no problems. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for putting me through this controversy. Your own representatives, can't handle the situation, just keep taking it in, and we'll fix it! Instead of procrastinating, just replace the vehicle already, so I can move forward with my life. I would appreciate your acknowledgement and cooperation at this time. Thank you, [xxx] redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (FOIA), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *Cc
