11 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (11 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 2.5 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170315-3E236-2147405187. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Energizer Energizer Industrial. Incident: The Energizer XBOX ONE 2X Smart Charger I purchased from Amazon had one of the battery packs produce intense heat while in the charger. The overheated battery pack deformed the plastic cover and produced the smell of hot plastic. I was lucky enough to notice the controller was no longer charging when I went to investigate. I shudder to think what may have happened if it had been left in the charger much longer because it was close to combustible drapes and a sofa.

Incident: Energizer 2X Smart Charger began to get very hot after being on for about an hour with two controllers in the stand. Stand is kept in a cool area on an end table, and is connected to a power strip that is shut off when not in use. I've had no prior issues with this charger, and luckily noticed a slight warm plastic odor before the issue got worse. Both the stand and the backs of the controllers were hot to the touch when I removed them from the stand. No damage or fire occurred, but it could have if I hadn't noticed in time.

Incident: Battery Charger from Energizer Model: CH1HR3DE caught fire while recharging energizer branded batteries and using provided power adapter that came in the charging kit. No injuries occurred. Charger was flashing as it should for a bad battery in the fourth slot and continued to flash even after battery was pulled from its compartment. Charger was given adequate clearance (minimum of 6 inches) around it for air flow to alleviate any kind of heat build up. Pulled charger from use and discontinued until a remedy is given. Picture will be provided of melted component and charring.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170722-6D540-2147398772. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Energizer Energizer Industrial. Source model text: [REDACTED]. Incident: Two months ago, our daughter received a toy ([REDACTED]) as a birthday gift. It requires 4 AA batteries in a compartment under the seat. This morning it wasn't working so my husband went to change the batteries. He used Energizer AA batteries (alkaline), brand new, stored in the package, and inserted them correctly into the toy. Within seconds of putting in the batteries, he smelled burning plastic and smoke started coming out of the battery compartment (we are unsure if it was coming from the battery itself or the terminal on the toy). He immediately popped the batteries back out and the smoke stopped. We removed the batteries from the toy and took everything out to the yard for safety. The fact that had my husband not smelled the burning plastic, our 1 year old was seconds away from sitting right on top of a toy that was about to catch fire is terrifying. Luckily he did notice and was able to stop the fire before it caused any damage or injury (ie there are no burn marks or damage to the plastic).

Incident: I was taking a AA Energizer battery out of a 16 battery pack of which I had already used several and inserting it in a decoration. My hand and my fingers immediately began to burn from extreme heat. I finally took it to my husband to make sure I wasn't imagining things and he confirmed that the battery was extremely hot. I finally decided to put the battery outside where it was about 40 degrees. Then I put it in a ceramic bowl outside since out deck railing is wood.. It is cool right now but I am afraid to bring it in the house or put it in the trash since I am sure it would heat up again and cause a fire. This battery is really hot.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241026-E2715-2147335723. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Energizer Energizer Industrial. Incident: We have two toddlers and a baby, so we have A LOT of toys with batteries. We have been using energizer max batteries and have had four separate batteries leak battery acid. Not only did this ruin four of my childrens favorite toys, but I have toddlers and babies using them. The battery acid leaked all out into the battery compartment and started to leak outside of it as well. It is so scary and dangerous. Energizer has a no leak guarantee for two years. This is not at all accurate and when contacting them, they dont seem to care. I didnt save the first two toys because I thought it was a random occurrence. I did save the last two and have one set of batteries. Because I dont have photos of the first two, they wont even consider helping me. Im very upset my children could have been seriously harmed and that energizer clearly doesnt care. Something needs to be done.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260908-229FB-2147310404. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Energizer Energizer Industrial (Energizer Industrial D Batteries). Incident: I ordered Energizer Industrial D Batteries from a seller of Amazon & Amazon fulfills the orders for these different sellers. The batteries come from one stock pile Amazon has no matter the seller. After ordering I received these batteries as usual & 1 day later after them being delivered to me I noticed Amazon refunded my money & left the message no need to return. I called Amazon & talked to customer service because I wanted to know what was going on with the refund no return. The customer service rep informed me the batteries that I received are a septic concern, straight to waste dispose product! No details other than that. After researching these batteries I found they are dangerous & can blow up my lanterns I use if terminals touch each other during handling I could be injured as well-they are dangerous. I had another order in to Amazon that was arriving Thursday so I called & customer service said yes same batteries coming! I told the rep what happened to ones I received already & he said yes-the same batteries are coming but if you want they have not shipped yet, I can cancel them. I said please cancel. It was done. Due to the danger inside my home I placed them in my shed away from the home. I called & Amazon is still selling the same stock pile of batteries now & returning the money & having customer handle & dispose of the dangerous batteries. For my family I have been on telephone all day trying to find a way to safely dispose of the batteries & no where will take them. The thing is-Amazon is continuing to load these hazardous batteries through the purchase, refu
