Reliability signal

8 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (8 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 2 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130822-EE55F-2147452780. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Motorola Motorola G Play 2026, Model XT26153. Source model text: MBP 36. Incident: We bought a Motorola baby video monitor 5/27/12. This summer the parent unit wasn't charging well or holding a charge. I would normally charge it on my nightstand overnight and hadn't moved the charger in several weeks but because it was dead during naptime, I went to move the charger downstairs. When I unplugged the charger I realized the insulation had broken away from the transformer and there were frayed, exposed copper wires. No injury occurred but the potential for someone to get electrocuted is significant. This charger was rarely moved so there's no reason this sort of damage should have occurred unless it's a defective product.

Shortly after purchase, the device began experiencing serious operational problems, including repeatedly locking up, freezing, and becoming unusable during normal operation. Due to these ongoing defects, I returned to the AT and T store on April 24, where store employees replaced the SIM card and advised me to monitor the phone to see if the issue was resolved. When the same problems continued, I returned again on April 25 and was instructed to wait an additional 24 hours. The device continued to malfunction. On April 27, I was demonstrating the recurring issue to my friend [REDACTED] by showing him how the phone would freeze while using the AT and T Device Unlock app. During normal handling, the phone battery suddenly became extremely hot, then exploded and caught fire. As a result of the incident, [REDACTED] suffered burns to his hand, and the fire burned a hole in the carpet inside his residence. This incident could have resulted in far more serious injuries if the phone had exploded while being held against someone's head during a call or in close contact with the face. Prior to the battery failure, the phone had already shown repeated signs of malfunction and instability. I do
