Reliability signal

—

7 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (7 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 19 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170511-8D662-2147401568. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Samsung S7. Source model text: S7 Edge. Incident: Aug 2016 I purchased a Samsung 7 Edge to replace my [REDACTED]. It ran a little warm. My screen went black. I sent it to Samsung for service (black screen & warm battery). It came back with 2 documents. One stated the battery & LCD screen were replaced. The second stated they couldn't fix it because it was locked. I plugged it in. This device runs HOT. I couldn't hold it in my hands. The LCD screen is fine. I phoned Samsung. they claim the battery wasn't replaced. I believe they fixed my phone with a defective battery. They offered to fix it again. I don't trust them.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200807-1210D-2147370628. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung S7. Source model text: Silver S7 Active SM-G891A. Incident: I am writing about my cell phone Samsung Silver S7 Active SM-G891A from ATT. Today I noticed that the phone was getting very hot, the battery draining unusually fast, but more scarily, the back of the phone was no longer flat, it bulges, so it wobbles on a flat surface. I think the battery has swollen. I was not doing anything unusual with the phone, just having a [REDACTED] meeting and noticing the wobble. I remember the S7 Note batteries were the ones that used to blow up, back when they were introduced in the USA, so I am letting you know. I cannot replace the battery because it is sealed in the phone. I feel if I keep using it, I risk damage to person and property. The bulge is a bit more that 1/8 of an inch from the original back of the phone.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180810-6FAA7-2147386263. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung S7 (Samsung S7 Cell Phone). Incident: On August 3, 2018, my 2-year-old Samsung S7 cell phone was on my night stand, plugged in and charging overnight. At 1:00 AM, it began shaking. As I woke up and looked over, the phone began hissing, emitting smoke, and spontaneously caught fire. A 5-inch flame shot from the phone and it took off like a rocket from my nightstand. The power cord pulled it back, and fortunately it fell into a waste basket. Still on fire and billowing smoke, I grabbed the waste basket and dumped the contents into my bathroom sink, now filling with water to extinguish the fire. I did nothing out of the ordinary to this phone for it's entire lifetime, simply charging it and using it each day. The power cord in use at the time was the one that came with the phone. I am informing your agency about this product safety concern for obvious reasons, as you need to know that Samsung cell phones still have this issue occuring today, August 2018. It is a serious public safety concern.
