6 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (6 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 3 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110401-CD7A1-1173993. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Char-Broil Char-Broil X200 Gas Grill. Incident: Consumer purchased a "Brush Hawg" from Lowes a couple of months ago. Consumer used it to clean his grill approximately 10 times. On 3/19/11, the consumer's wife was grilling chicken for a dinner salad. When the consumer bit into a piece of chicken that she cooked on the grill, something stuck deep into the roof of his mouth. The Consumer states that he couldn't get what was stuck in his mouth with his fingers so he had his wife rush to get a pair of tweezers. Very fortunately the consumer was able to reach in and pull out what turned out to be a half inch piece of wire that broken off the Brush Hawg. It scared he and his wife very much. The consumer mentioned his concern if it got lodged deeper in his throat? The next morning, the consumer examined the Brush Hawg and found a wire that looks as if it was one that broke. The broken end that was stuck in his mouth is the same size as the missing segment and is the same gauge and color as well. The consumer further mentioned that is that piece of wire had gone any deeper, he would have needed special surgery to remove it. This is not the first case of this type of failure resulting in injury. Previous documented failures of this type of product have caused serious injury. The consumer said that this product didn't have a warning label on it. The consumer also contacted the manufacturer and reported that they neither offered a refund or seemed to be overly concerned over the problem.

Source model text: Char-Broil Tru-Infrared 2-Burner Gas Grill. Incident: I bought a Char-Broil Tru-Infrared 2-Burner Gas Grill from Walmart 6 months ago. The flame keeps going out and because you can't see through the metal plates I can't tell if it;'s still lit or not? When I check to see if the gas is still ignited by clicking the igniter, the gas explodes and pop's the iron plates up into the air. I have tried resetting the gas regulator and when that didn't work I even replaced the regulator, but my flame is still cutting out while still letting out gas and making a very dangerous situation.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170427-A8DF4-2147403963. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Char-Broil Char-Broil X200 Gas Grill. Source model text: CharBroil Tru-Infrared grill #463270614. Incident: On 2/19/2017 I lit my CharBroil gas grill to warm it up as I was preparing to BBQ. I was in the house about 5-10 minutes when I heard an explosion. I went outside to my deck to find the grill completely engulfed in flames. The fire dept. was called and they out it out with high pressure water hose. My deck, railing and roof were damaged. Luckily I was not standing in front of the grill when it exploded, if I was I would have been severely injured. CharBroil and their insurance company (Sedgwick) claim that the grill was not at fault. They have ignored my request for repairs to my damaged property. There is an obvious and dangerous problem with their grills, and they refuse to acknowledge it.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190610-87E9E-2147380487. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Char-Broil Char-Broil X200 Gas Grill (Portable outdoor gas grill). Incident: Charbroil grill2go x200 purchased approximately May 25 2019 returned to retailer approximately 2 weeks later 2 major problems both concerning the regulator control 1. The grill, on low, would run over 600 degrees with no food inside, no grease fire, all from gas source 2. After weeks of ownership the fuel began bypassing the control valve on the regulator. This led to fuel flowing into the grill with the odor of gas (propane scent) noticeable 30 feet away. This occurred when the grill was turned to lock which is an extension of the off position. Fuel bypassed the control valve into the burner which had not been lit yet and was unattended and assumed off for 15 minutes. All fuel components were checked at for leaks at time of connection and none were detected, meaning the failure occurred after the grill was inspected to be safe within minutes of the failure. After failure fuel was only noticeable as coming from the brass nozzle that is inserted into the burner with the valve confirmed again as still off AND locked. Valve was never handled with more than fingertip force and regulator never dropped or subjected to any damaging force since purchased. 3. Charbroil customer service advised of issue and questioned if there was another revision to the regulator. Was advised that there were 2 revisions. CS advised that they could not trace by manufacture date code nor serial number what revision grill was equipped with when failure occurred. 4. Not wanting another regulator that may have the exact problem, grill was returned for exchange of different model. Grill was purchased an
