SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210425-D276D-2147364519. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.3690.3900. Source model text: Sears Kenmore Dishwasher model 587.15233900A. Incident: Our Kenmore dishwasher developed a leak causing water damage to cabinets, and the leak was dripping on the electrical junction box. The leak seemed to be coming from a place on the underside of the dishwasher where there should not be a source of water. I examined the inside of the washer tub and saw that the heating element rod had deformed and drooped down to rest on the plastic tub. The heating rod melted the plastic tub creating a hole and the water could escape. This is a serious defect for at least 3 reasons. One-the tub could have caught fire. Two - the water damage from the leak. Three - a possible electrical short causing electrocution or a fire.

Incident: My Kenmore 3690 Range Door Shattered leaving glass all over my kitchen floor last night. Model # 79036909900 As far as I can tell the part that shattered is part number 318304124. I have spoken with several people at Sears none of whom have anything to offer except to send a repair person or to sell an extended warrenty. I paid over $1300 for this range (on sale!) in April of2010. Also several months ago a prong on one of the range top grates broke off for no reason (which was going to cost several hundred dollars to repair) so now I just avoid using that burner. Both of these issues are serious safety risks. I am going to call the recall department on Monday (800-659-7026) but I suspect based on other reviews there is no recall. This should be reported until it is addressed. Imagine if a small child had been standing in front of the oven door when this occured!!! Based on info found on the web it appear this is not uncommon. SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201019-15277-2147369140. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.3690.3900. Source model text: 790.48853900. Incident: My wife and I baked dinner in our Kenmore Microwave/Wall Oven Combination, model #790.48853900. Once dinner was done my wife turned off the oven, it appeared that the oven was off (all "bake" lights were off, the clock was displayed, etc.) but the oven continued to heat up. The oven continued to heat up and we were unable to turn the oven off until we eventually tripped the breaker. I contacted Sears with my complaint and this is a known problem! How in the world is an oven that continually heats up, despite displaying that it is "off" AND without any way to shut it off besides tripping the house breaker, not a colossal fire hazard? This is outrageous, particularly since Sears knows about the problem and there have been recalls on similar Sears models that have the same issue!

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120204-BBB8E-2147470584. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.3690.3900. Source model text: 79097423900. Incident: Yesterday evening, the right rear burner on my Kenmore Elite Smooth top range did not get hot after I turned it on to high. I waited a few minutes, still didn't even get warm. I thumped the burner thinking something was loose - immediately, all the coils on this burner (visible under the ceramic top) became red hot poker red and hotter than these burners have ever been. with about 1/2 inch of the beginning of the coil becoming even redder, and seemed to flare up and flicker a little. Made a filament type noise while it was flickering, like when you shake a lightbulb. This alarmed me. I've never seen a smooth top do this. Turned it off and didn't use it. The other burners seemed to be working as usual. This morning I re-tried the right rear one - same thing - became immediately very hot with the same flickering up and filament sound. Oddly enough, this very same burner, which is my favorite and the one I've used mostly, did not seem to be getting as hot as it should for a few months now and the burner did not seem all that responsive to knob temp. changes. I attributed that to the fact that it is the most used burner, so I didn't complain. But this business of now overheating and flickering is scary and probably dangerous. I called several numbers this morning to report this to Sears/Kenmore, including the one in the pat response from Sears on this website - all were totally useless, unless I wanted to pay over $100.00 for a service call. All numbers, including the local Sears

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20181203-38D05-1814049. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 790.3690.3900 (gas range). Incident: The consumer stated that she is just getting back into her home after a fire that occurred in her Kenmore range. There was damage to her kitchen cabinets as well as damage to the stove. (06/20/2018) The consumer stated that she turned on the self-cleaning feature before leaving for work but advised her daughter that the feature was on. Her daughter advised her that during the self-cleaning of the oven, there was a carbon monoxide warning from the smoke detectors that had just been put up two weeks prior. Her daughter left the house and called the fire department. It was later determined by the insurance company that the fire was caused by items in the storage bin that is under the oven. The consumer stated that she had lids for pots, warming stones and other items in the bin. The consumer stated that nowhere in the owner's manual for the product does it advise consumers to remove items from the storage bin before using the self-cleaning feature. (12/03/2018) The consumer contacted the manufacturer and was advised that there is no recall on the product. The consumer was also advised to contact CPSC.
