Reliability signal

—

5 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (5 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 6 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

Injury-related incident

Gas Ranges or Ovens (279)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120423-60FD3-2147468178. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid KGRS505X. Incident: I purchased a KitchenAid stainless gas double oven (Model KGRS505X) in January. On numerous occasions (at least ten), I have discovered the gas on in the house, only to find a knob on the front has been turned on, allowing the seepage of propane into the house. We have lived in over 15 locations, and have owned even more ovens, updating as needed or desired. My concern, reported to KitchenAid, is that the knobs are TOO easy to turn on. We have no children in the house playing 'mischief' on us. Again, the knobs are too easy to move; no definitive, hard stop or lock, allowing the gas to kick on if the knob is gently brushed against. I have found this happening by accident as I stand adjacent to the range. My wife and I enjoy the design, especially with the double oven, but feel this issue presents a huge safety problem which should be rectified before someone is injured. As mentioned, we have contacted KitchenAid. They are sending a representative to look at this issue. Please partner with the company for a quick fix.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130924-8F7C1-2147451577. Severity: Unspecified. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid KGRS505X. Source model text: KGRS505XSS01. Incident: On 9/16/2013, while using the range top, the right rear burner became locked in the "on" position. The burner knob would not turn to allow the burner to be shut off. Very scary! I called KitchenAid customer service and was routed to the safety department. I was told to disable the appliance by shutting down the circuit breaker, unplugging the appliance, and shutting off the gas. Service was dispatched on 9/18/2013 to repair the burner valve. The repairman, [REDACTED] from A & E Factory Service, told me that the valves break all the time. I can bear witness to that. In July 2012, the center burn was locked in the "off" position. The burner knob would not turn to allow the burner to be turned on. A picture of the broken valve from the 9/16/2013 incident is attached for your reference.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110511-D490F-2147479276. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid KGRS505X. Source model text: KGRS505XSS01. Incident: KitchenAid Double Gas Range Model #KGRS505XSS01, Serial # D10949212 was purchased in February 2011. Burner knobs are located on front panel of range and do not have a push in to turn feature. With the slightest motion, lean up to use microwave, even walking past, knobs turn on letting gas escape. This has occurred at least a dozen times already. Today I returned home to a gas filled home after several hours and realized 2 of the knobs were turned AGAIN. I hate to think of the explosion that could have occured had a light switch been turned on there was a spark. Upon looking on-line, there are numerous complaints of same hazardous problem. I contacted KitchenAid this afternoon and was told "most ranges are made that way today, it can not be fixed, it is how the range was manufactured." This is an unacceptable response from KitchenAid and a horrific danger. I have older children who are always in the kitchen and have instructed them to stay away from the range, I can not imagine what could happen with very small children in the house. There is absolutely no lock feature for the knobs. Can you please help me?

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20171130-F4917-2147394941. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: KitchenAid KGRS505X (KitchenAid Double Oven Gas Range 30" Model KGRS505X. Installed April 2011). Incident: I was using the self-clean option on my KitchenAid Double Oven Gas Range (model KGRS505X), which was installed in April 2011. I selected the regular self-clean option, a four hour clean. With about 1.5 hours left on the timer, I was in my basement checking on laundry and noticed debris on the surrounding area. Once I entered the laundry room, saw flames coming through from the ceiling above and realized it was from the oven. I ran upstairs to turn off the self-clean. The fire continued and smoke built up. We used a home extinguisher to contain/put out the flames. With a call to 911, the fire department arrived. The fire was extinguished, the oven was removed from my home, and the oven and surrounding area were inspected by the fire department. It was noted that there was no debris surrounding or under the oven or anything inside to cause the malfunction which resulted in a fire. We are left with a hole in our kitchen, from where the oven was, that burnt through the floors into our basement. And no stove.
