SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20241119-0DED6-2147335181. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid KODE500ESS. Source model text: KODE500ESS05. Incident: Inner glass in my oven door spontaneously shattered causing glass shards to fly all over my kitchen. Incredibly unsafe. Thankfully, no one was in the kitchen when it happened so no one was injured. We did nothing to cause this. The oven wasn't on, nothing hit the oven, there was disruption in the house like construction or something that could have banged on the oven and caused the glass to break. From my online research, it is due to defective glass. The glass could have easily gotten into food or cut someone. It is Kitchenaid model KODE500ESS05, Serial number DX3405398. This is a built-in double oven. The glass shattered on the bottom oven and I am very scared that the same defective glass was used on the top oven and could break at any time. This defective glass put my family at risk of injury and we are currently still at risk living with the potentially-dangerous top oven. Please investigate immeditately.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220405-67A1B-2147356993. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid KODE500ESS. Source model text: KODE500ESS04. Incident: Kitchenaid double electric wall oven Model number KODE500ESS04. Three minutes into preheating the oven, I heard a loud screeching sound. I looked over to the ovens and saw it was bright red--- like a blow torch and smoking. I ran over and turned the oven off at which time the control panel shorted out. The rear heating element came apart in pieces. There was ashy dust covering the interior. This happened in the upper oven. I realized after, I could possibly have been electrocuted when I turned off the oven. If I hadn't been in the kitchen, my house might have burned down. This is not an isolated incident---I went back to Lowe's website to read the reviews on this oven and found a consumer had the same thing occur only it was in the bottom oven. Kitchenaid needs to rectify their design and make sure they are not using substandard parts. Their quality control department certainly needs some oversight. I have owned this wall unit less than 3 years.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170109-F79AA-2147408335. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: KitchenAid KODE500ESS. Incident: KitchenAid Model KODE500ESS purchased July 15, 2015, from HH Gregg in Naples, FL. Installed by technicians provided by HH Gregg. On January 9, 2017, used the self-cleaning feature for the first time in the upper oven only. Used the shortest cycle available (3.3 hours). About 1.5 hours into cleaning, there was a tremendous blast. Went into the kitchen and found glass everywhere as well as smoke. Could not access the oven as it was too hot. Turned off circuit to oven and called Fire Department. Fire Department made the determination that the unit is defective and that it should be removed immediately. This is not an isolated incident with this model number. KitchenAid is refusing to do anything about it.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220908-BF04C-3891178. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: KitchenAid KODE500ESS (Double Oven). Incident: The consumers wife turned on her double oven to self-clean for four hours however two hours into it the top ovens broiler element caught fire and melted. The consumer turned off the unit. The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke scheduled for a Service Technician to inspect the oven. Upon inspection, the consumer was informed that nothing could be done as the unit was out of warranty. The consumer states that both ovens are used approximately twice per week, and that this was the third time that the self-cleaning feature had ever been used. The top oven is no longer usable. The consumer plans on keeping his double oven for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260912-FAFB3-2147310118. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: Kitchenaid KODE500ESS (The KitchenAid 30" Double Wall Oven is a 30-inch electric built-in double convection wall oven). Incident: After cooking in our KitchenAid double oven for approximately 2030 minutes, we suddenly heard an extremely loud bang that sounded like a gunshot. We discovered that the glass inside the lower oven had spontaneously shattered. Glass was not only scattered throughout the inside of the oven, but had also blown out across our kitchen floor. This was particularly concerning because there were children nearby, and the pieces of shattered glass were still extremely hot. Someone could have easily been cut or seriously burned. When I contacted KitchenAid, I was not initially asking for replacement parts or demanding that they repair the oven. My primary concern was reporting what I believe is a serious product safety issue so that the incident would be properly documented and, where required, reported through the appropriate safety channels. Instead, I was told that because the oven is approximately four years old, it is out of warranty and that any burns caused by the hot glass would essentially be my responsibility. I found that response extremely concerning. Whether an appliance is under warranty should have nothing to do with whether a potentially dangerous product failure is taken seriously and documented as a safety complaint. Tempered oven glass should not suddenly explode during normal cooking and send hot pieces of glass across a kitchen floor. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, but children were nearby and the potential for injury was very real. My concern is bigger than replacing a piece of glass. I want KitchenAid/Whirlpool to formally document and investigate th
