POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11574894

In the first 10K miles the motherboard had to be replaced. Then the volume dial twice. Then the fuel sensor broke and because of its placement the entire gas tank had to be replaced. Next up at 45K the Medtronic (brains of the transmission had to be replaced and then the differential was having problems and they were debating working on it. I went to sell it at 48K miles before the warranty expired and during the inspection it was noted the two engine mounts were leaking and needed to be replaced. After I sold it to an Audi dealer, different than the Audi dealer I had purchased the car from and where I had all the warranty work done, I found out the CARFAX report showed NONE of the repairs made by the original Audi dealer to the car. Seems fradulent to me by the original Audi dealership who did all the major repairs.

On October 9, I brought my 2019 Audi Q7 with approximately 79k miles to my dealership service department for an oil change and an inspection sticker. While in for the service, the dealership performed a multi-point inspection. During the inspection, the service technician found that both rear coils were broken off of the base. The technician recommended that these be replaced immediately and need immediate attention. The cost of the repair is over $3,000 and would then require an alignment and calibration, costing an additional over $500. I understand that these coils were recalled in later model Audi Q7's but not my year. Based upon this, it seems that the coils are defective and there should be additional recalls. There really is no reason for coils to break on a car that has such a large towing capacity (though I don't tow anything on the car and don't have a tow hitch). This is a safety issue for the car's performance and control.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11627197

I am filing a complaint and request for a recall on 2019 Audi Q7's side marker light. This is 2019 Model Audi Q7.It has about 60K miles. I start getting a warning message pops up frequently saying "Right front side marker light faulty See owner's manual". Searching online it appears many user with same model years facing the same problem, but could be on the left side. Some say dealer will not cover the repair even with extended warranty. Repair cost ranges from $3000 to $5000. The part is around $30. Due to this What people would normally do is just disable the light with some diagnostic tools. This is against the safety requirement and extremely dangerous in my opinion. This is most likely manufacturer's faulty design or defects since it is so prevailing among car owners of same model. Please see some of the online posts by owners with this issue. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

At 50k miles, in July 2023, I was told by the dealer, Audi, that the rear spring mounts were corroding, and it was not covered by warranty. Everything I have read about spring mounts is that they are not considered a wear and tear part, and should not deteriorate. But I paid about $2,000 for the repair. Now, 11 months later, one spring coil itself has broken, and despite the warranty since it was last replaced less than a year ago, Audi will not honor the warranty at all, because it was the spring mounts and not the springs themselves that were replaced. However, it is the same job to repair, and so I am forced to pay for the same amount of labor again. This seems criminal given the parts are interdependent and the job takes an equal amount of time. I don’t understand why the coils weren’t replaced initially, as I now have to pay for the project to essentially be redone. Yes, it is a safety issue. Was not inspected by police but it was by the manufacturer. There haven’t been any warning indicators in the vehicle.

Both rear coil springs broke. Was not obvious when I was backing up. I heard a bang. I thought I hit something, but in fact I didn’t. I never knew what was wrong. The dealer reported that both rear springs were broken. He said it was a safety problem to keep it that way. The Audi dealer said it was a safety problem I think you should believe him. It is a safety problem. The car drove but I had to replace the springs cost thousands of dollars. Videos of spring at. [XXX] There was no crash. There was no heavy use. The spring simply broke the first one broke I believe at 55,000 miles and the second one at 76,000 miles. Everybody on the Internet seems to be having broken springs on Audi Q7 and Q5 models. And when they break, they’re no longer supported mechanic , as you can see from the photographs. One spring is supported in one way on the edge of the retain cup and one spring is pressing against some other component. It’s dangerous. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

25 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11425041

The problem occurs when making a left-hand turn. I'm in the left-hand turn lane waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. When it is clear, I proceed with my left-hand turn. After a short distance, the Forward Collision Warning indicator flashes, the brakes are applied very hard, and the car stalls. I am often left in the oncoming lane, with a stalled car. I have to put it in park, start it then put it into drive to move forward again. This takes a bit of time. This is 1) very startling, 2) makes it likely for me to be rear-ended, and 3) my car can easily be hit head-on by a car in the oncoming lane. I luckily have not been in an accident yet. This has occurred at least 5 times, with one additional time, the indicator and brakes being applied but the car did not stall. The dealer has been notified twice about this problem, and says there is no known solution they know about. This is a very serious problem. In all instances, there are NO cars in sight in the oncoming lanes. These are all false alarms. The fact that there has not been a read-end collision yet is very surprising.

Powertrain / transmission failure

POWER TRAIN

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11301185

My audio Q7 had throttle delay issues soon after purchase. The service department at the dealer told me all tests were normal and returned the car. Problems continued, especially at low speeds. There is typically a delay of about 3 seconds before the car responds and when it does I have the pedal to the floor and the car lunges forward. One delay was about 6 seconds. On one occasion I was turning left into a busy intersection and the delay occurred. An oncoming car had to brake to avoid hitting me broadside. The problem is intermittent but occurs almost daily at least once. It can occur from a dead stop but more frequently occurs at low speeds. I took the car back to the Audi dealer and was given a Q8 as a loaner. This loaner Q8 also had the same problem. I could minimize the problem by turning off the auto start stop button and driving the car in s mode. This had not helped the problem with the Q7. An acquaintance of mine bought a Q8 recently and has had the same issue two times. I had the issue about 10 times with the loaner Q8 and hundreds of times with the Q7. I feel unsafe driving the Q7 and have parked it in my driveway. I do not plan to drive it again. At this point I do not know what I will do with it. I purchased another vehicle to drive instead.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC),ENGINE

2 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11241727

I was going approximately 55 miles per hour in the center lane on the interstate. Shortly after shifting the car into Sport mode, the vehicie had sequential malfunction notifications appear on my screen. The specific order is difficult to remember due to the rapidness of the whole situation. The malfunctions appearing on the screen over the steering wheel were: traction control malfunction, TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system malfunction, parking brake malfunction, automatic start/stop system: malfunction, start/stop system: malfunction, and a drive system: malfunction. The majority of these warnings said to please contact service. While the malfunctions appeared the engine of my car stopped working, acceleration stopped working, and the engine did not maintain the current speed. The vehicle essentially died at highway speed while I was travelling in the middle lane. I turned on my hazard lights and was able to coast to the shoulder (after other drivers allowed me over). Once stopped I turned off the car, pressed the start/stop button which resulted in a repeat of the start/stop malfunction indicator, and it instructed me to 'manually start'. I then pressed the button off and back on again, the car then restarted. The car shifted into drive and I took it immediately to the local Audi dealership.

1. Steering malfunction, yes. 2. In the course of driving on [XXX] through a mountain pass in Colorado with snow and poor driving conditions, the steering mechanism on the vehicle failed resulting in not being able to maneuver the vehicle out of the lane or off the road safely. If this happened while other vehicles were in front/behind or to the side of us, or if this would have happened in another mountain road without emergency curbing/exits - we could have easily been killed. 3. The vehicle is at the Audi Denver dealership (had to be towed) and they confirmed the code "Steering: malfunction! Please stop vehicle" that displayed on the panel. 4. No, tried to call Audi but there was a 2 hour wait to talk to someone and even then, not sure I would have reached anyone that could have helped. 5. Warning message "Steering: malfunction! Please stop vehicle" displayed with red steering wheel icon and exclamation mark. No other warning or sign of failure. This is the problem, driving at highway speed, get a steering malfunction warning, can't steer or control the vehicle - have to stop "safely". This could have been catastrophic. In any other vehicle if rack/pinon slips or power steering fluid fails, you can still manage to steer and avoid collision, this Audi under these conditions gave no such option. Brake system failure

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

81 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11728044

My car has experienced unintended automatic emergency braking while driving in active traffic with no obstruction present. This created a serious risk of a rear-end collision from vehicles behind. Prior to this, the car had ongoing alignment and steering issues beginning shortly after purchase. The car consistently pulls while driving and has required multiple repair attempts, including alignments and inspections of steering and suspension components. These repairs have not resolved the issue. The problem appears to be worsening. In addition to the unintended braking, the vehicle intermittently displays safety system warnings related to driver assistance features. The failure involves both mechanical and electronic systems, including steering alignment and automatic emergency braking. It's believed that incorrect alignment or suspension issues may be affecting sensor calibration and causing false collision detection. The car has been inspected multiple times by the dealership, but the issue has not been diagnosed or permanently repaired. The car's unsafe to operate due to unpredictable braking behavior. The warning signs that the car gives are “Traffic jam assist unavailable” and “Safety system malfunction” while driving. These warning messages and system malfunctions have been occurring intermittently since shortly after purchase in early 2025 and were previously reported to the dealership. The warnings continued after the incident and are documented with photos taken the following day. The safety systems appear to be unreliable and malfunctioning in real-time operation.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE

86 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11765439

During summer 2026 the check-engine light on our 2019 Audi Q7 came on BEFORE its first August service/oil-change visit. The light remained on when the dealer returned the vehicle. Within days, the driver found cruise control no longer worked; it had worked before that visit. She called the dealer in mid-August to arrange a return. At the second visit, the dealer reported intake-manifold runner controls for banks 1 and 2 stuck closed and recorded: "water pump has failed internally, causing a vacuum leak". The water pump was replaced. After the second visit, around August 28, 2026, a high-pitched whining/squealing noise began. It occurred while coasting or going downhill and generally when the accelerator was not pressed, not only while braking. The driver initially suspected a brake noise. She recalls the dealer advising measures to remove excess brake material and saying it should not pose a safety risk. The noise persisted after those measures. At a third visit the dealer diagnosed a PCV/crankcase-breather issue. That repair remains outstanding. The earlier reassurance concerned a suspected brake noise before the PCV diagnosis. We request investigation of the persistent warning, cruise-control malfunction, diagnosed vacuum/intake-manifold issues and later PCV/noise complaint, including any safety implications for vehicle operation. Whether these faults are related is UNKNOWN; their timing alone does not establish that service caused them. Our specific concern is abnormal crankcase pressure from the PCV fault, including possible overpressure, oil leakage or seal damage and impaired engine operation in traffic. Actual pressure/vacuum measurements and any resulting damage are UNKNOWN; these are concerns for investigation, not confirmed events. Receipts are available. Actual fault codes, diagnostic tests, and repair records should be reviewed. Availability of removed parts for inspection is UNKNOWN.
