The UB80E transmission produces a whining/whistling sound when accelerating; the vehicle shudders and then surges forward suddenly, with improper gear shifting. A Toyota dealer inspection confirmed the noise originates from the transmission due to the final drive failing, with no diagnostic trouble codes present.

The vehicle caught fire while parked, turned off, and unattended for approximately one hour. No warning lights, smoke, odors, or other symptoms were observed before parking. The fire was extinguished by the fire department before the owner returned. The cause is unknown and under investigation by a fire marshal, who indicated it appears to be a manufacturing defect.
