SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20141008-F1A04-2147440256. Severity: Injury, Seen by Medical Professional. Matched catalog product: HP dv7 (Pavilion laptop). Source model text: HP Pavilion DV4-1000 DV5-1000 DV7z 384019 Ac Power Adapter. Incident: I purchased HP power cord and used it and about more than a year ago my laptop burned and set on fire and completely damaged. I received an email from amazon today about the recall of that power cord by HP since it caused burns and over heating. I tried to repair it but it costs me more than $300 so I purchased a new one but today I came to know the real reason of the burn which actually burned my hand as well since I was using the computer at that time.

Incident: I plugged in my HP pavilion dv6500 laptop and turned it on. Aproximately 5 minutes later I heard what sounded like a shot gun blast. The laptop had exploded. I was sitting about 7 feet away in my kitchen. The laptop was on the island. I jumped up, took the laptop off of the island (it was burning the countertop) put it on the stove and put the flames out. I started to assess the damage to the countertop and take pictures with my cell phone, then it burst into flames a second time. I put it on the floor and extinguished it again....I then took it outside for fear of another explosion and called HP. There was damage to the countertop, the stove and the kitchen was covered in black soot.

Incident: HP DV7 Laptop overheats to the point where it can cause burns. The laptop eventually heats so much that it destroys the CPU so that the laptop is dead. I contacted HP a few months after buying it about the overheating issue and they told me it was normal and there was no issue. I have called several times over the past 2 years as the heat made the laptop malfunction and now completely die. It is now out of warranty and they refuse to fix it or admit that there is an overheating issue. They claim that any over heating is due to the programs I use. But it begins to overheat before it can even reach the login screen.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140618-EF0BF-2147443594. Matched catalog product: HP dv7 (Pavilion laptop). Source model text: HP Pavilion dv7t-6b00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Noteboo. Incident: HP dv7 - quad-core notebook pc has always run warmer than other notebook pc's. And I thought it was normal until I pulled my notebook pc out of my bookbag and the back covering had melted. The notebook was in hibernation mode, which means that it is completely shut off with the immediate memory written onto the hard drive. This allows the system to boot up much quicker than a normal starting procedure. The system was not overly hot when I put the notebook pc in my bookbag before heading to class and the battery was still fully charged when I found the back panel melted. HP claims that the case melted due to a clogged heat sink and sent me pictures of the heat sink. There was dust and dog hair on the heat sink but I do not think that it was by any means "clogged." The dv7 model has received numerous complaints regarding heat issues and I did not think that a laptop could melt before this incident occurred.

Incident: My HP Pavilion dv7 laptop (which I paid $2838.56 for) gets so hot it has burned our four year-old and I have to have my left hand on a oven pad to keep from getting burned while using it. It does this with anything over 6% of CPU usage. I have read there were recalls on several overheating issues with HP but they never contacted me if this is related. If it is not, it should be recalled for safety. It gets worse each month. I've been trying to get all data saved to external drives but I have no choice but to use the computer as I purchased it for work. If I turn it off for over 24 hours it will be cool for a few minutes before revving up the fan and making the metal frame all unbearable and dangerous. I'm afraid some time it will melt the plastic components and start a fire.
