Reliability signal

—

7 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (7 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 10 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20161014-52F59-2147412018. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung Galaxy S7. Incident: I have a Samsung galaxy S7 edge, and the phone gets too hot at times to hold. I have had to replace my S7 edge already because the first one got so hot that I dropped it because it was burning my hand. After replacing the broken S7 edge with another S7 edge the problem still continued in the replacement phone. At different times the phone will be so hot to the point I cannot place it to my ear. I have reported the issue to Samsung and all they say is to send it in so they can analyze the problem.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170125-01DF5-2147407677. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung Galaxy S7. Incident: The back camera glass shattered. There are numerous reports on line of this happening with the Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. I sent it to Samsung for repair since the phone had been a protective case and was never dropped. However Samsung says the glass was not defective and is charging $70.21 to fix the phone. Because the phone was not dropped or anything pushed into the glass cover it is a flaw in the device. And with so many people having this issue needs to be investigated. The broken glass could cause injury to the user.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20161202-7609C-2147410202. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung Galaxy S7. Incident: On 11/27 I was prompted by my Samsung Galaxy S7 to download an update. I was driving on the free way and noticed a bad smell shortly after the update began. I tried to pick up the phone and the case was soft and warped, the phone was uncomfortably hot and the smell got so bad, my husband thought the phone was going to catch fire or implode. He rolled down his window and threw the phone in the back of the truck to cool it down(the weather was cold and raining) once we got to our destination, we grabbed the phone and it was drained from 99% battery to 19% battery in less than an hour but it remained cool as I did not use it or plug it in. The next day, in the car on my commute I had to plug it in to charge it and the smell came back, the phone got hot and melted a rubber portion and the buttons popped out on the sides. I contacted Samsung and after explaining what happened they instructed me to put the phone in a plain cardboard box and ship via [REDACTED] to Plano Texas. They said that using air mail would get it there in less than 2 days so they could take apart the phone before they would replace the phone since I bought it from Verizon, I told the Samsung employee a cell phone is business critical , I commute 5 hours a day and it is unsafe and I can not do my job without a phone for a week or more. She said that I should then take the phone to Verizon to get rid of it. Now, Verizon will not trade the phone in as it is a "potential Safety Hazard" and said I need to work with

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200723-F0615-2147370897. Severity: Injury, Seen by Medical Professional. Product: Samsung Galaxy S7 (Samsung Galaxy S7 brand cell phone and charger.). Incident: On the evening of July 9th 2020 while sleeping I was suddenly awoken by the sound of hissing. Looking over at my dresser to see a bright orange flame coming from my Samsung Galaxy S7 phone that I had plugged in to it's charger. Smoke started to fill the room as I got out of bed and unplugged the phone cord from then power strip when I exited the room. Informing my partner that "I think my phone is on fire" we came into the room to find it full of foul smelling smoke. We opened the bedroom window and turned on all the fans we could before leaving the room. Around 30 minutes later I returned into the bedroom to scoop up the phone into a stainless steel sauce pan and placed it outside on my balcony. We left the window open for the entire night and the following day. The next day my partner was feeling a tightness in their chest and went to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor said she had minor lung irritation and if it persisted over the next few days to come back. Luckily over the next day it went away on its own. Myself I did have some irritation after the incident that cleared up over time and did not seek medical attention. Fortunately my dresser did not burn and the phone's case seemed to have protected it. The battery did send black specks all around that stuck to bed sheets, pillows, etc but did not burn them. The black specks caused a slight tingly sensation to the skin from battery acid I'm assuming. The phone is a complete wreak and I feel that nothing is salvageable from it.
