FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

20 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11453635

I have taken my vehicle to Ram dealer letting them know the Forward Collison Warning (i.e. 'BRAKE' to show in display and brake if I don't) is not working. Both time they said it was working and basically showed me the front sensors setting. I have tried to test this on the road and almost rear ended three cars: 1) speeding up when car in front is at a traffic light, 2) accelerating to 65 mph coming up on a slower car, 3) coming around a curve on a two lane highway with car coming in opposite direction. No warnings at all. My Honda Pilot shows the warnings in each of these cases. So I went back to the dearler and explained that on the Ram forum, https://www.ramforum.com/threads/anyone-else-with-a-fcw-forward-collision-warning-problem.142051/page-3#post-2623613, other drivers have noticed same thing. My RAM is a 2020. I saw where someone with a 2019 has same problem. Also showed the dealer the youtube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SE3irp18ts, so they knew what I was talking about. They told me they don't have any way to test FC. I told them I didn't understand how the FCS is not working when the ACC is working perfectly. This was noted as well in the Ram forum. This needs to be fix immediately if it was discovered on 2019 vehicles: 1) before someone is badly injured because the FCS doesn't work, and 2) I paid for this safety feature and should have it.

The contact owns a 2020 Ram1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brakes applied independently without being depressed. There was no warning light illuminated. While driving over a bump in the roadway, the vehicle inadvertently shifted lanes and the vehicle became uncontrollable. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the death wobble and the vehicle spun out of control and was almost struck by another vehicle. The contact was provided a police escort to the dealer. The 4WD, ABS, and service engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who stated that the tires needed to be replaced. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that an unknown module needed to be replaced. The dealer also recommended that the tires be replaced for better performance. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a tire shop and the tires were replaced but the failure persisted. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact was unable to control the vehicle on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the front passenger’s side tire needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case and referred the contact to the local dealer. The manufacturer closed the case after speaking with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11378425

I was pulling in behind a park vehicle in order to park myself. I was in a hs parking lot where some much more serious could have happened. I was moving aprox 1-3 MPH and about to stop and park when the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated. I was 10-12 feet behind the parked vehicle. The truck accelerated so hard it pinned me back to the seat. I franticly tried to stop the truck and at the same time the anti collision kicked in as well to slow the truck. Unfortunately it was not quick enough to prevent from hitting he car in front. The lower portion of my bumper hit the mid rare of the other vehicle as the truck must have been raised from the force. I called the dealership that night and filed a claim with fca. They pulled the data from the truck and did an analysis. They are claim there was no mechanical malfunction and I accelerate and braked late. The report shows that the truck accelerated to 100%!. You simply do not accelerate to 100% by accident which I thought would have been an indicated that something either kicked in and made the truck accelerate or the pedal jammed but something. I am adamant that I did not accidently accelerate to 100% by accident. I spent the money on this truck to have the piece of mind that me and my family are safe. I no longer have that comfort. I have attached the data report. I cannot attached the correspondence from fca as I cannot attach a word document

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

47 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11598801

Upon purchase brand new in 2020 with in a week a cylinder had to be replaced. Since then this truck has been in the shop for almost a year in total over the past 2.5 years. The recalled high pressure fuel pump went out at around 60k miles, this incident almost resulted in a major accident in the middle of the night as the power loss to the engine and brakes left me free rolling down the road into a stop light 4 way. When sent for repairs they had to replace the pump 6-7 times before they could give it back to me as well as the entire fuel system. The check engine light came on as I drive off and they had to replace the pump and other parts for the 8th time and kept it for another month. A couple months later the alternator went out and battery shorted on the freeway. And after that repair a few months later the alternator flooded with oil on the freeway in the middle of nowhere and the trucks dash lit up with electrical failure and check engine lights. This time the truck was repaired in 3 weeks and after 100 miles the engine blew completely on the freeway, I never made it home with the truck. They’ve had the truck at the dealership for 2 months the now and are quoting for a complete engine replacement at 72k miles on the eco diesel engine. This truck is a faulty piece of machinery and should not have ever been on the road. They can’t run the teuck for any testing as the engine will run away at max rpm when started.

Fuel system failure

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

7 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11545712

After I got the vehicle, during the first winter in January of 2021, I was filling up the vehicle at a gas station in Kansas. The fuel pump clicked off long before the tank was full and continued to click off every 3 seconds or so when attempting to continue. I stopped filling the tank at about half full after about 20 minutes in the freezing outside temperatures thinking it might have been something wrong with the pump. The gas gauge only read 1/2 full. I went to the next exit and tried again. Same situation. It took forever and finally after repeating this for about another 20 minutes, it finally did go to full but then leaked gasoline everywhere like it didn't stop because it was clogged or something. Seems to do it frequently when temps are below freezing. What ever repairs were supposedly made, did not work. I am very concerned this is a fire hazard potential if not corrected. I took it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and they claimed they replaced the fuel nozzle. But it continues to do this every time it gets below freezing. I am wondering if moisture / vapor is becoming frozen in the line, or that the fuel nozzle system is of poor design where the tank cannot keep up with the venting. Perhaps it was the manufacturer trying to comply with environmental regulations, but failed. In any case I worry about the fuel leaking out and catching on fire from driving or static. It is a serious problem!

To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this email to document a vehicle safety issue involving my 2020 Ram 1500 (5.7L eTorque). In November 2025, the vehicle experienced a failure of the eTorque motorized alternator / belt starter generator system, resulting in a loss of the electrical and charging system. As a result, the vehicle became non-drivable. The vehicle was delivered to an authorized Ram dealership on November 18, 2025, and has remained there continuously. The manufacturer (MOPAR / Stellantis) has confirmed the failure is warranty-covered, but has advised that the required part is on indefinite backorder with no firm ETA. As of the date of this email, the vehicle has been out of service for over 60 days and cannot be safely operated. This issue appears to be widely reported nationwide (I was told by Landers Dodge in Norman, OK that the part is on backorder, and that there are currently 4,678 on Back Order. They also said that they’ve had a RAM there since last Oct. 2025 (this was on 12/12/2025 at 12pm) among vehicles equipped with the eTorque system, indicating a potential systemic defect affecting vehicle operability and safety. I am submitting this email in addition to my formal NHTSA complaint to ensure the issue is fully documented. Thank you for your attention. Fuel system failure

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11323550

Usually, the gas nozzle automatically turns off the gas when the tank is full. While waiting for this to happen, hand on nozzle holding it open, the gas overfilled, gushed out of the fill tube, and out from under the truck. A big puddle of gas on the ground. I thought the nozzle shutoff malfunctioned. I went to fill my truck again on 5/5. I put the nozzle into the fill tube and squeezed the handle. Gas gushed out of the fill tube right away, out from under the truck and creating another large puddle of gas on the concrete. I had a similar, no cap, filling tube on my 2013 F-150 and never had this problem in 7 years. So I called my dealer to report this and see if others have had the same problem. I was told there is a second valve in the fill tube and I need to insert the nozzle all the way into the spring. I haven't had a chance to see if this corrects the problem. However, many times when I have tried to fill various vehicles that I have owned, sometimes I have to pull the nozzle slightly out to keep the automatic turn off from coming on so I can fill the tank. I never top off, add more gas after the automatic switch turns the pump off. I think this is a poor design or something wrong with my fill tube. I'm sure others will be doing the same thing I did and raw gas all over the ground and vehicle isn't very safe. Both times vehicle was stationary and engine off at the filling station. I will take pictures if this happens again. *Tr

I have a 2020 Ram 1500 pickup, and the rear window leaks on both side of the glass and runs down to the carpet and it is starting to smell really moldy. I took it into the ram dealership on 11-4-24, and they said they have had several complaints on this and said I could pay to have it replaced or they could put silicone around the glass to see if it stops the leak. I wasn't happy with this but I told them to go ahead and reseal it and they did. About a week later it was leaking again. I called Ram Cares both times and they told me that they have lots of complaints about this same issue as I'm having as well. Matter as fact my son also has a 2020 ram 1500 that leaks and my next door neighbor has a 2021 ram 1500 that is also is leaking. I took it back in 12-17-24 and they told me they were told by Ram to reseal it again. Again I'm not happy about this. I am hoping someone will make them fix this issue. I paid a lot on money for this truck to not be able to drive it in the rain or get sick in the process of the mold. If you do a google search, back in 2016 there was several complaints and they failed to address the issue since then. The Ram service lady said they changed it in the 2023 model, but not going to fix the older models because it would cost to much. They are trying to reseal it as putting a band aid over it and if they do stop the leak now someday down the road it will leak again from the sealant decaying and then they won't do nothing. Something needs to be done please.

Fuel system failure

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

35 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11680185

While refueling my 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie with the large (33 gal) fuel tank, the fuel pump "vacuum-assisted automatic shutoff" or "nozzle shutoff mechanism" is triggered dozens of times prior to the tank actually reaching a full level. I have been experiencing this issue consistently for the past year and it has occurred, to the same degree, at each of the fill-ups conducted at a variety of gas stations during this time. I've had an independent service center diagnose the issue and they recommended I take it to a dealer for service and also report the issue because this has been a common issue they have seen. Other Ram 1500 owners on internet forums also report having had this issue. The safety issue is that gas may become trapped in a fuel system component where it shouldn't be collecting which exposes vehicle occupants to an increased risk of fire in the event of an accident. Furthermore, this condition makes it nearly impossible to know when the fuel tank is full because the shutoff mechanism is triggered many times prior to full. This results in over-filling the tank and possibly having fuel remain in the filler neck, which also unnecessarily increases the risk to vehicle occupants to fire or explosion if involved in an accident. Vehicle owner manuals and gas station pump warning stickers typically warn operators of the dangers of over-filling or "topping off" fuel tanks specifically for this reason. With the system not operating correctly, the risk of overfilling is severe and unsafe.

Steering failure

STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE

67 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11713339

Vehicle experiences intermittent but repeatable safety-related electrical failures affecting turn signals and blind spot monitoring. The left turn signal remains engaged after canceling and does not shut off unless the opposite turn signal is activated, causing incorrect signaling to other drivers. This occurs without driver input. At the same time, the Blind Spot Monitoring system intermittently displays a “Blind Spot System Unavailable” warning and disables the safety feature while driving, increasing the risk of unsafe lane changes. Vehicle was inspected and diagnosed by an authorized Ram/Stellantis dealer. Dealer verified the concern and documented fault code B2225-00 – Steering Column Module Internal Failure, confirming the steering column control module is malfunctioning internally and not posting correct left/right turn signal inputs. Wiring, grounds, power, and CAN bus communication were inspected and ruled out. Dealer also documented fault code B285F-15 – Blind Spot Warning Light Control Circuit Short to Battery/Open, tracing the blind spot failure to a shorted passenger-side mirror harness, confirmed through load testing and a wiggle test. No aftermarket electrical modifications are present. These failures affect federally required signaling and driver-assist safety systems and occur intermittently, making them unpredictable and hazardous. Vehicle has approximately 48,877 miles and is a 2020 Ram 1500. Concern is ongoing and unresolved without replacement of safety-critical components.

The rear window, window seal, or related components have failed and allow water to intrude into the cabin of my vehicle near the back. This water gets the headliner wet and drips down the interior of the rear window, down the rear of the passenger compartment. This water intrusion occurs with very, very light moisture on the vehicle, such as early mornings with morning dew, light rain, or watching the vehicle. The near-daily (due to dew) intrusion of water into the cabin of my vehicle raises safety concerns of mold & mildew in the passenger compartment. My rear window backlite frame is visibly cracked on the interior, matching the symptom pictured in TSB [XXX]. My vehicle has a manufacturer date within the dates noted in the TSB. My vehicle also includes a power sliding window as noted in the TSB. I've been to two dealerships and they both told me they see this problem in RAM trucks "all the time". Both dealers refused to perform a warranty repair under the extended warranty noted in the TSB (150,000 miles) because my VIN is not associated with the TSB in FCA's system even though my vehicle appears to be described as a vehicle affected. I've attached 2 photos to my report. One photo showing the crack as noted in TSB [XXX]. One photo showing the actual crack in my backlite frame. This appears to be a very prevalent issue with a lot of online discussion from many other affected RAM owners. The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. No warning lights were illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The contact was unable to pull over to the side of the road. While the vehicle was still on the road, the contact shifted to park(P) and then back to drive(D), and the vehicle returned to normal functionality. However, the contact stated that the failure had occurred six times. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. In addition, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the gear knob independently shifted gears. The contact stated that the gear knob was in drive(D) and then independently shifted to park(P). It was unknown if any warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. Most recently, after reversing out of the driveway and then driving forward, the front passenger’s side mirror independently moved inwards. The failure obstructed the driver's visibility and prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and manually pulled the front passenger’s side mirror outward. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

The start/stop feature on the truck has been malfunctioning and the light has repeatedly came on. The truck has stalled on me while driving on two different occasions. I was in the middle of driving on a busy road and also a highway and the truck stalled on me which could of caused any vehicle to the side of me, or behind me to hit my vehicle causing an accident especially when I have both my kids in the car. The dealer allegedly fixed the problem but clearly it is NOT fixed. The problem has been diagnosed by the dealer at their establishment. They say nothing shows the truck stalling in the computer but I have proof. The truck shook, the start/stop light came on along with the check engine light and then stalled out on me both times. I opened a case with ram care and they dont seem to be of any help nor is the dealer. The dealer refused both times to check the “e-torque” battery that controls the start/stop feature for any failures or malfunctions and gave the excuse that theirs nothing indicating its the battery yet that battery specifically controls that feature. Ram has also recalled 131k trucks and wranglers for stalling. Ive brought the truck to them 2 times this month alone and they refuse to check that battery which 2 other dealers said was the problem. I would of brought it to the other 2 dealers but ram care advised to bring it to the dealer where I purchased the truck from. This is seriously unreal and if something happens or my kids get hurt due to an accident this is gonna be a major lawsuit. I need your help.

Component Failure: Around 45,000 miles, my vehicle equipped with the 5.7L HEMI E-torque V8 had both exhaust manifolds cracked with large exhaust leaks pre-catalytic convertor Safety Risk: My vehicle equipped with the 5.7L HEMI E-torque V8 was idling in a parking lot for around 1 hour while I waited inside the vehicle. Cold ambient temperature with windows up and heater on. I noted having a slight headache and started smelling what seemed to be pre-catalytic convertor exhaust fumes (rich fuel smell). I stepped out of the vehicle and smelled the exhaust at the rear of the vehicle, which did not match. I attributed the smell to a nearby vehicle. One week later, the same event occurred with no other vehicles parked around me. The exhaust leak was large enough to pull exhaust fumes into the cabin through the HVAC system. High risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if the vehicle was to sit long enough, risking both myself and my child's safety while we sat in the vehicle. Problem Reproduced: Yes, brought the vehicle CJDR dealer who diagnosed the vehicle with "both exhaust manifolds cracked" and replaced both exhaust manifolds under warranty. Has component been inspected: Unknown. Parts were removed from vehicle as covered under warranty at dealer and replaced with new parts. Any Warnings: No warning lights on dashboard or DTCs for catalytic convertor performance, lean/rich banks, or other exhaust/emissions related. Exhaust seemed slightly louder on cold start. Smelling of unburnt/pre-cat exhaust fumes that prompted dealer visit.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

67 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11713784

I am reporting a suspected safety defect involving the Motor Generator Unit (MGU) used in the eTorque system on my Ram 1500. The vehicle experienced an MGU failure that resulted in abnormal electrical behavior, warning messages, and impaired drivability. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Ram dealership, which confirmed the MGU has failed and requires replacement. The MGU is currently on national backorder with no estimated availability date. As a result, the vehicle is inoperable or unsafe to operate and cannot be repaired in a reasonable timeframe. Why this is a safety concern: The MGU is critical to the vehicle’s starting, charging, and powertrain functions. Failure of this component presents safety risks including loss of propulsion, potential stalling or failure to restart, electrical system instability, and vehicle immobilization in traffic or unsafe locations. The extended inability to obtain replacement MGUs significantly increases these risks. Additional information: Based on dealer communications and publicly available owner reports, similar MGU failures and extended backorders appear to affect multiple Ram 1500 eTorque vehicles, indicating this may not be an isolated incident. Dealer/manufacturer actions: The dealer confirmed the failure and ordered the replacement MGU. No repair timeline or permanent remedy has been provided. Request: I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue to determine whether MGU failures in Ram 1500 eTorque vehicles constitute a safety-related defect requiring investigation and potential recall action.

On November 13, 2019 at 6:00PM pst while traveling 70MPH westbound on interstate 90 at the SR18 interchange the vehicle experienced multiple serious safety defects and major systems failures due to loss of electrical power. Light conditions were nighttime, traffic was light, weather was clear. Electronic failure messages began to appear on instrumentation panel approximately 20 minutes prior to the total electrical failure: navigation, stop/start, climate control, Uconnect, Sirius radio, adaptive cruise all ceased function with no driver ability to control these systems well prior to the total shutdown. At total shutdown, with the vehicle still traveling at 70MPH, the following additional events simultaneously occurred: 1.TOTAL failure and complete loss of power steering, 2.TOTAL failure and complete loss of power brakes, 3.TOTAL failure and complete loss of headlights, turn signals, and hazard lights 4.TOTAL failure and complete loss of all dashboard and u connect instrumentation, 5.TOTAL failure and complete loss of all steering column and dashpanel controls 6.TOTAL failure and complete loss of adaptive cruise control, 7.TOTAL failure and complete loss of electronic lane assist. 8.TOTAL failure and complete loss of electronic parking brake this ended with the vehicle being safely pulled to the shoulder of the freeway. When stationary, the vehicle lost nearly all power; there was just enough remaining power to randomly illuminate displays and Uconnect in arbitrary flashes; giving the dashpanel the appearance of a nightclub. The vehicle was then towed to the selling dealer.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11719217

My 2020 Ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7L HEMI eTorque system has experienced repeated failures of the charging system due to the belt starter generator (BSG) / 48-volt hybrid system. The vehicle has shut off unexpectedly while driving in traffic, resulting in sudden loss of engine power and loss of power steering assist. This created a dangerous situation where I had limited ability to control the vehicle and had to coast to the side of the road. The truck has also stalled at low speeds and intersections, requiring a restart while in traffic. When the failure occurs, warning messages related to the charging system or hybrid system may appear, and the vehicle becomes difficult to maneuver due to loss of steering assist. The underlying cause has been identified as failure of the eTorque belt starter generator (BSG) and/or associated 48-volt system components. The vehicle’s 12-volt battery is no longer properly charged, leading to repeated dead battery conditions. I am currently forced to recharge the battery daily to keep the vehicle operational. Replacement parts for this system (Mopar part number 68623194AC or superseding versions) are on national backorder with no estimated availability. My vehicle has been affected for approximately five months, leaving it unreliable and unsafe to operate. This defect creates a serious safety hazard because the vehicle can lose propulsion and steering assist without warning while in motion, increasing the risk of a crash. I am reporting this issue so that NHTSA can investigate potential safety defects in the eTorque hybrid system used in Ram 1500 vehicles.

My 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie was parked in my garage. I started it to let it warm up before driving. The garage started filling with smoke and the smell of fire. I backed the truck out of the garage and noticed flames on my backup camera. The 7 way plug was on fire. I quickly shut the truck off as soon as I got it out of the garage. I put water on the fire to get it out before it took over the back end of the truck. I had drove the truck the day before and filled it up with gas so my life and my son's life was as risk knowing there is a electrical issue. It also was parked in our garage when it started smoking and it could of burnt the whole garage and house down if I didn't get it out of there as fast as I did and noticed it burning. I had contacted 3 dealer ships and they all said sorry we can't help you. I decided to contact Ram directly to file a claim. Ram told me specifically not to take it to any dealer and they would look into it. 3 weeks later they sent out an investigator to my house. They took pictures of the truck and the damage. They plugged in a code reader and it didn't throw any codes. I asked the guy for the report and he said he couldn't give me one. I have since heard back from Stellantis and their email said things like this happen and they have declined any further assistance associated with this fire. They than said to contact the insurance. A fire is a safety issue and there is major concerns of safety. I don't feel safe when they said it was safe to drive after they did the investigation. I took it to a dealer ship to have it repaired and it started to smoke twice driving it to the dealership.

Fuel system failure

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

64 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11715431

The high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) in the vehicle’s diesel fuel system failed. This component is subject to NHTSA Safety Recall 22V-767 (FCA Recall Z96). The HPFP has failed more than once, including after recall replacement, and the vehicle is currently in dealer custody, making the component available for inspection upon request. The HPFP failure caused the vehicle to stall and become inoperable, resulting in an unexpected loss of motive power. This created a safety risk by leaving the vehicle disabled and unable to be safely driven. The recall itself identifies HPFP failure as a condition that can lead to engine stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. The repeat failure after recall repair further increased safety risk. The failure was confirmed by an authorized Ram dealership (Gene’s CDJR of Fairbanks). The dealer documented HPFP failure and fuel system contamination, performed the recall repair, and later confirmed repeat fuel system issues. Most recently, the replacement HPFP failed again during an extended test drive performed by the dealer, confirming recurrence of the defect. The vehicle has been repeatedly inspected by an authorized Ram dealership, including: Recall repair inspection and replacement of the HPFP and related fuel system components, Multiple follow-up inspections after continued symptoms, Diagnostic inspections following check-engine lights, noise, fumes, and loss of drivability. No police or insurance inspections were performed, as this was a mechanical failure handled directly by the dealer under a safety recall. There was no warning prior to the HPFP going out the first time.

I own a 2020 Ram 1500 with approximately 61,000 miles. I started noticing a clicking/grinding around the motor area at around 59,000 miles. I brought the truck to a local mechanic, who diagnosed it as a possible alternator issue. He suggested bringing it to RAM service because it may be covered under warranty. I followed up by bringing it to RAM to diagnose the issue. After multiple visits, they could not pinpoint the issue, however recommended replacing the belts and adjusters. Over the course of the next month, the clicking/grinding got louder. I made another appointment with RAM, and while I was on my way over there the truck had catastrophic failure and seized all operations. Thankfully I wasn't going more then 20MPH or else something really bad could have happened. At that time, the truck was reading code U0594, which translates to "Invalid Data Received From Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module". I had to get the truck towed to RAM, where they have now had it for about one month. Originally they had said that I would need to buy a new alternator and associated belts/adjustors and battery because i was beyond any standard warranties on the truck, with estimates over what the vehicle is worth, however some personal research found that there is a federal emissions warranty that covers an issue like this. I was fortunate enough to get a loaner car from the dealer two weeks after my truck seized up. I have read online that this is becoming a more common issue with these trucks and feel the manufacturer should raise a warning to their consumers. Had I been on the highway when this happened, who knows where I could be.

My vehicle is a 2020 Ram/1500 BIG HORN/LONESTAR (with 5.7L HEMI - V8) My VIN is - [XXX] The Engine system failed/malfunctioned while driving on the highway. (It is currently available for inspection upon request.) I will however be taking the vehicle in for an engine rebuild and reinstall on or around May 30th, 2023. My safety and the safety of others was put great risk when my engine sputtered and vehicle rapidly slowed down on the freeway, during rush hour traffic; nearly causing rear end collision. Check Engine warning lamp came on and started flashing at the time of the failure, this was first time it happened. My vehicle was diagnosed from a mechanic/technician at Milosch's Palace Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Lake Orion, Michigan. The technician said that the engine failed due to issue with Cylinder #7 and will need to be replaced - at a cost of nearly $11,000. I did find a licensed repair facility that will do a complete engine removal, overhaul and rebuild including a 24 Month Warranty. According to the gentleman at the repair facility, this is a common issue, and they are on working rotation, repairing 12-15 HEMI Engines at any time due to this common failure. 5.7L HEMI Valve Train issues have been documented over and over; this is a known issue for many years. There have been several cases where HEMI engine owners have filed lawsuits against automobile manufacturer, alleging defects or performance issues with their engines. In some cases, these lawsuits have been successful in securing damages for the owners. I could provide you with some general examples. I bought this used truck with 60K miles on it in 2024. It is a 2020 truck. At 136K the engine failed.........with the infamous [XXX]. I have an excel summary spread sheet on all maintenance I had done since I owned this truck and I did not pull or haul anything. I heard a tick for about 10 days before I took it to my dealer whom I bought it from and they stated after "scoping" that the # 8 cylinder misfired and cylinder wall scored and the lifter pin bearing failed thus cam shaft damaged and exhaust manifold cracked. They had to replace the engine with a remanufactured engine from [XXX] and replaced intake and exhaust Manifold at a cost of $ 15,021 out of my pocket. I was stuck with no options logically. I do not have a problem with the Dealership - [XXX]. I have a problem with Ram Engineering, Stalantis design. To me there is no excuse to have a big cast iron block v-8 fail at 136K miles. There are many more ram owners who have this same problem I just stated that I had. If I knew then what I know now i would have never bought this truck with this 5.7L engine. There were no warnings, messages or anything displayed to alert there was a problem. I expect that there was not enough oil flow to # 8 cylinder ( which is all the way back to the left rear ( passenger side) of the engine ) looking from the front of the truck as I read many Ram forums on line. I changed to oil every 5K miles with Mobil 1 full synthetic oil along with the filter - either Mobil 1 or WIX filters. some of the best on the market. I do not know what I can do now but this is rediculous. I won't get burned again. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Too bad I can only mark 3 areas when there are many more. Following safety systems and driver aid either don't work or work sporadically: forward collision, rear collision, lane keep, auto high beams, rear Cross traffic alert, rain sense wipers, navigation, voice command, parking gear, front and rear camera, memory seat easy entry ( doesn't go back to correct position), hot smell if use AWD setting. Infotainment system totally malfunctions. Truck been in 7-8 times for problems, there over 2 weeks on 2 visits, radio replaced. Still having all problems. Been going on since new, over a year ago. Has had numerous RAM upgrades at dealer and over air. Never know if safety systems are going to work or not. Have lost all trust in this vehicle. Will being backing up and brakes lock up as if rear sensors have detected something when there is nothing. Rear detectors turn off by themself. Cameras stay on. Nav cursor shows on map 6 miles away from actual location. Basically all electronics work sporadically. Happens in motion and while not in motion. All glitches blamed on electronics in infotainment system according to RAM. Put truck in park and continues to roll forward. Opening door is supposed to engage emergency brake. Does sometimes and other times does not. With this many electrical problems I'd hate to be in an accident, probably the air bags don't work. Periodically go to start vehicle and it's dead. No chargers are plugged in it anything that should drain battery. Now carry a jumper box after I waited over 2 hours for RAM roadside service.have asked for repair orders but haven't been given them. Have noted every glitch with RAM customer service via email. Case is open. Nothing gets done.

November of 2022 I took my truck to the lithium dealership in Reno NV for an exhaust leak they reported back to me that they replaced the manifold passenger side. two weeks later exhaust leak returned they informed me that it was a lifter tick and there was no exhaust leak this was at 51,000 miles. The problem got worse I took it back to them twice with both times I'm telling me it was a lifter tick, but I could smell exhaust in the cab of the vehicle. Now that the truck is out of warranty it's 61,000 miles the exhaust leak got so bad I took it to a different dealership where they have found both exhaust manifolds were leaking and now that it's out of warranty the extended warranty has taken over. but with that said now I am without a car because the extended warranty does not cover loaner cars. the manifolds are both on national back order. the sad part about this is the lithium dealership said they replaced the exhaust manifold and they did not according to the Carson dodge dealership the manifolds were never changed. Apparently this is a known problem with these vehicles and the parts are on national back order. I just find it very disgusting that a dealership would kick the can down the road just so they didn't have to replace the exhaust manifolds or give me a rental car while my truck was sitting there so now I have my truck in the dealership with no ETA on when I'll get it back I'm having to rent a car on my own and still make a truck payments. Don't know if this is a common practice with Ram/Chrysler but this is a despicable way to do business. The second problem is the power steering assist stops working while I'm driving that is also at the dealership waiting for parts that are on national back order.

So I am driving on the freeway 70mph and I get a message on my dash that says service shifter then every single light on the dash came on and started to make a beeping noise. I pulled over on the side of the freeway and then all the lights dissappear except check engine. I continued to drive to next exit and this time all lights came on again and truck appeared to be shutting off and turning back on while driving, steering wheel got hard to move all while all lights turning on, on dash. I have taken to shop 3 times first time they told me it was battery so I purchased battery and diagnostic fee for 600. Still continued to have issues even after replacing battery. Then they tell me they don't know what's causing this issue and the truck hasn't been fixed. I'll let the truck sit a few days and check engine light is gone and it will drive normal until the issues pops up again. I just don't know what to do about issue and have lost hope nobody seems to know what's causing thr issue. I have videos of this happening multiple times and I show to shops and they are just im awe and can't figure out what is happening. This happened to me yesterday 4/25/25 and while driving the truck started to show all lights on dash and immediately put itself into park while I was driving about 20 mph. Turned the truck off and started it back on again and got the service shifter message and drove home slowly and truck sat in driveway. I've taken in the truck multiple times and nobody seems to know what is causing the issue and I'm tired of spending money things they believe it to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are starting to lose hope on this vehicle and are thinking about letting get repossessed as it's not useful to us if it can't be fixed

I was driving on I-15 between cedar city, ut and ST george, ut. Driving approx 75MPH when suddenly traffic was stopped in front of me in both lanes. Applied brakes with absolutely no results. Drove off of paved portion of highway to avoid hitting stopped cars. Vehicle had less than 500 miles on it and I had owned it for 3 days. Finally got vehicle stopped approx 3/4 mile down the road. Approx $1700 damage to vehicle. Approx 5 months later I pulled into u.s post office to park. Brakes again failed and I hit brick building at approx 5MPH or less. Approx $5000 damage to vehicle and uncertain of dollar damage to p.o. Building. Three days later I pulled into ma parking lot, brakes failed again. I was able to avoid any parked cars, mainly because parking lot was almost empty. I was able to use emergency brake to stop it. The following Monday I took it to stephen wade dealership. They had it for 5 days, checked for codes, drove it approx 8 miles and told me to come get it. They could find nothing. Factory customer care told me to take it back to dealership. Called for appt and was informed that due to safety problem and accident, they would not touch it. Called RAM customer care back, told them dealership refused to look at it. Customer care said to take to another dealership. Next closest dealership is over 120 miles away. They said dealership has right to refuse to work on it and then told me that RAM factory tech gave orders not to touch it. Now I have a RAM truck with brake problems that neither local dealership or factory tech will accept to work on. I have a $70,000 msrp, 5,400 lb "paper weight". No help from factory. Truck does not have 4,000 miles and apparently the factory warranty is worthless. See also 11402784

I have a 2020 Dodge Ram that has 75,000 miles on it. It has already broke down requiring a new transmission ( Jan of 2023 at 61,349 miles) and on [XXX] at 83,000 miles I, again, broke down and found it to be a valve spring. I have inquired as to the frequency of these occurrences in other Rams and a was told neither one of these occurrences should have happened. I jumped the hoops of the warranty and have put out almost $1,000 for the warranty company to "inspect" the engine, valve spring & tranny items that I should not have had to deal with in the first place. At first, the warranty company was willing to discuss possible retribution of some sort given the rarity of the break downs that occurred. I had a caseworker and now I cannot get anyone on the phone to even discuss this with any longer. Always being told "In a meeting", "Not available". With my last call being today and told SOMEONE was going to call. I have received emails noting "it is being investigated" and also told someone would reach out. NOW I have developed anxiety over this truck as, I travel. I'm terrified that I will be stuck in the middle of no where in the middle of the night. Both occurrences happened at night while alone! I am a [XXX]! Perhaps that's why ? I have been without a vehicle since that time and even the auto repair place had a very hard time in getting warranty company to pay. Truck is home now but now Im afraid to drive it anywhere. This was my dream truck and Im heartbroken at the total disrespect that has occurred for my safety and for anyone else who has had to go through this - I do have invoices but it wouldn't let me download them. Installed trailer brake assist. When we shut the truck off, the brake lights came on and stayed on. Assured by B&B trailer of St Augustine, Fl that it was an issue with the truck and not the part. Other issues have come up- dash lights also come on when turned off, backup camera, remote start, rear defrost, cig lighter plug, rear speakers, and A/C stopped working. Took it to Daytona Dodge on 1/29/25 where they diagnosed the ABS module had failed. They did a system reset and everything was ok until we had to disconnect the battery again- had to install a switch on the battery so lights staying on doesn’t kill the battery. Was told they’d let us know when a new part came in- mid February. Called Ram HQ on 2/17- case # [XXX] and that was no help. Referenced recall 85B and she said it was for a 2d row seating issue and said no ETA on new parts being made. My truck was mfg 2/2020 so how the software update recall doesn’t apply makes no sense. Would it have prevented this, who knows. Then called the dealer up and spoke to Stephen, a svc mgr, who recommended buying a used one ( he said aftermarket but I don’t think there is such a thing) and they would put it in. Got one from eBay and went on [XXX]. After I sat there all morning, I was told they couldn’t override the Vin that’s already on a used part. I have tried calling and emailing the service management team for follow up since then with no response. This is an abomination of customer care and needs attention. I’m hoping these parts are coming soon and that people like me are reimbursed and compensated for time lost and diagnostic fees and parts and labor. Also hoping this recall is expanded/redone to include my truck as there’s no reason it shouldn’t. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This incident happened to me yesterday afternoon around 3pm in Syracuse. The rear heated/slider window exploded when driving causing glass to shatter outward from the cabin. I pressed the breaks when I heard the explosion and was fortunate no one was in front because there was ice on the road. Shattered glass was propelled outward but no vehicles were behind me, i was doing 50 on a 55, weather conditions were not great: 20 degrees and snowing pretty bad. I called the a dealership in Syracuse and they said they don't provide warranty to glass and to call the insurance. The insurance referred me to a shop in Syracuse (Safelite). The shop took me in and covered the area with a plastic wrap and told me that the glass won't get in unit l 5 days due to glass shortage. They also said they had a Chevrolet Silverado and a Ford F150 with the same issue during this week. They mentioned that all of them had one thing in common; rear defrost/heated, motorized slider window. The shop suggest to only use the defrost for a short period of time. That if the rear defrost stays on a prolong time it could heat the glass to extreme temperatures causing this scenario. I was never briefed on this procedure nor does my user manual i dictate such thing. Upon checking online I noticed that this has happened a lot, not only the rear window but the sunroof as well (no defrost option). I worry about glass particles falling into body parts of the passengers or potential debris hitting other cars behind you . I have an appointment for Wednesday to get the rear window replaced in a Safelite shop in zip code area 20678 and have to pay a deductible of $250.00 for something that I was not negligence. I think these are manufacturing defects, nothing hit the glass and scared the heck out of me. I'm lucky I didn't collide with anyone when I slammed the breaks.

Brake system failure

SERVICE BRAKES

7 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11395823

Our issues with our 2020 Dodge RAM started on Friday, January 15TH. After arriving home, I parked the vehicle and entered my home around 6:45 pm(witnessed on video); at 7:45 PM I went outside to get something I had forgotten in the truck and noticed it at the bottom of our driveway (on ring video). I went inside to get my husband who came out and pulled it back into the driveway and engaged the parking brake.we left home the next day and noticed that the vehicle started to "chug" as we slowed down and took a left turn. We called our dealership and were urged to bring in the truck that day as they stated this was a safety issue. Upon arriving home to unload everything before heading in, we put the truck in park. My husband and I exited the vehicle (our children were in the back seat) when at 1:27 PM it started to roll back down our driveway. Afraid for the safety of our kids, my husband quickly jumped back in and applied the brake manually. Even though the truck was in park, if he took his foot off of the brake, it would continue to roll. Ontuesday, January 19TH, a service man asked for my husband to come in and discuss the circumstances of the video we sent in (ring video)) and do a test drive with a technician. During the test drive the technician drove the truck and experienced no issues, at this point he asked my husband to switch seats and drive instead. On level ground, the truck was put in park, the tech asked him to engage the parking brake and then put it into gear without disengaging the parking brake and the truck started to roll forward. Additionally, he had him do the same process in reverse and had the same results with the truck rolling backwards. At this point, the technician shared the safety concerns for our family and wanted to run more tests since they were able to duplicate the same issue as the video we had sent in on flat ground.

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11402784

Purchased 2020 RAM Limited on July 14, 2020. Msrp was $70,355. On July 16 was traveling on I-15 when all traffic was stopped in front of me. I was traveling over 70 MPH. I applied brakes and nothing, didn't even slow me down. To avoid colliding with any of the stopped cars I left the roadway and drove onto the shoulder and into the bar ditch. Took me approx half mile to get stopped. Stopped by going up an exit. When I finally stopped, I was terrified. I checked brake pedal for obstruction and it was clear. Being an average common citizen, no matter new or used vehicle, we expect the vehicle to stop when we push on the brake pedal. When it does not it is terrifying. Vehicle had approx 500 miles at the time. Over $1700 damage to my new truck. Forward to December 29, 2020: went to my local post office, pulled into parking space, again, no brakes. However was going very slow (5 MPH or less. Crashed straight into brick building. Absolutely no response from brakes nor did the "auto stop" engage. Over $5000 damage to truck and $???? Damage to building. Forward to Jan 1, 2021: pulled into parking lot, tried stopping, again no brakes. As it was a holiday and the evening, not many cars in parking lot. Was able to stop with aid of parking brake. Has been to local dealer, I told them to keep it as long as needed and drive as much as needed. They kept it for one week, said no codes on computer, drove 8 miles said nothing wrong. Have not driven for 2 months (scares me). Awaiting another dealer (next closest 250 miles away) to pick it up to check it out some more. Vehicle now has less than 4000 miles. Absolutely no support or help from RAM. Been fighting with them for 2 months. Have gotten nowhere! I'm not a rookie, have bought and owned between 75-100 cars in my life. Never a problem with a dealer or a manufacturer, until now!!! On Thursday 16NOV2024 I noticed the rear sliding window on my 20' Ram had shattered on the drivers side section. The sticker on the back was damaged and appeared burnt. The weather that morning had been 35 degrees and partly cloudy. When I remote started the vehicle at 0700HRS, the rear defrost came on automatically. I drove about 10-15 minutes to work and parked. I returned to my vehicle approximately 10 minutes later and noticed a burning odor but thought it was due to a woodstove used nearby. Later in the day coworkers noticed the sticker was burned. I thought it may be intentional or due to the rear defrost system since the part that is wired and transitions to the heating grid is right under the sticker. We reviewed security footage from when I parked to when it was discovered and noone went near the vehicle. I suspected the defroster had an issue. I stopped at the dealer, my warranty was expired and I have glass coverage but I wanted to make them aware of the issue. The dealer glass rep took photos and said she'd never seen anything like it but would talk to engineers about it. The following day I received a call saying that she showed engineers the damage and was told that the system doesn't have enough voltage or heat to cause that damage and they wouldn't help. I wasn't looking for money, I have full glass/no deductible. I had the glass replaced the following Monday and asked them to save the parts I suspected of failing. I have photos of the part that appears to have failed and overheated causing the damage. I have a concern that worst case, if something had been behind the headrest up against it and the vehicle was in a structure that a fire could have occurred. I followed up with my photos and concerns but never heard back from the dealer. Noone has expressed an interest in seeing the failed part in question and I still have them in my posssesion.

Fuel system failure

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11505496

I was made aware of this recall in October via mail, and since then have tried to make contact with the dealership. I purchased from Carmax and bought the MaxCare warranty, but seeing as this is a recall I took the vehicle to RAM after receiving the recall notice. I told them how this is a serious recall and the fact that there is no remedy was unsafe for me to continue driving. They assured me that RAM was working on it. They offered me the option of purchasing my truck for less than I owed on it and to roll over the remaining balance into a new loan. I declined. On February 3, 2023 I was driving and my vehicle jolted and shut off. Upon starting it up again my check engine light came on. I drove half a mile to a Big O Tires shop to run the code. On a Solis Ultra reader it ran 088 - High Pressure in Fuel Rail. So i took the vehicle straight to the RAM dealership where they offered me the same resolution as last time. I declined and went to Carmax and stated that I am paying for a vehicle that I now cannot drive due to safety and since I have MaxCare that I should be entitled to another vehicle of equitable value since there is currently no remedy. I was told to go back to RAM and talk to manufacturer. I spoke with RAM care and opened a claim and was advised that a remedy is expected in quarter 2 of 2023. After several calls to many different case managers, I was advised that I would have to get a rental out of my own pocket and would hopefully get reimbursed, and that I would have to wait after the weekend to hear anything else. The service rep told me that since there is no remedy currently, the best they can do is look at it and if there are no issues to put the fuel pump back in. This is an unsafe vehicle, and I refuse to continue paying for something that does not work due to the manufacturers fault, nor am I willing to rollover another vehicle loan payment since they are not open to equitable trades.

Owner detected a foul odor inside vehicle. Upon investigation water was found in the rear floorboard and water stains across the headliner above the power rear sliding window. Further investigation online revealed that Fiat-Chrysler issued Technical Service Bulletin [XXX]\"Water Leaks At Sliding Backlite\" dated April 22, 2021 and [XXX] Rev B \"Water Leak Rear Of cab Rear Seat or Headliner\" dated June 2021. Owner called a local dealership and requested information regarding any recall related to RAM 1500 cab leaks, and was told that they were none. Dealership failed to advise owner that a know problem exists for these vehicles. \n\nOwner believes that a safety issue exists with water leaking into the 3rd brake light assembly resulting in failure of that safety component to operate correctly and cause a rearend collision. Further, owner believes that a safety issue exists with water leaking into the electrical system that operates the power sliding rear window resulting in a fire or electrical human contact electrical injury.\n\nThis issue has been confirmed by dealerships as they have attempted repairs for other owners. Additionally, Fiat-Chrysler's issuing Technical Service Bulletins for these problems indicates the manufacturer was aware of the issues.\n\nAt this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, dealership, police, or insurance representatives or others. However, owner will be initiating contact with one or all of these entities to confirm the problem.\n\nThere were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The vehicle was purchased new from a dealership in January of 2020 by owner. Symptoms were discovered by owner when a foul odor was noticed in the vehicle. Upon investigation water was found in the rear floorboard and water stains across the headliner above the power rear sliding window. Engine failure

ENGINE

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11527606

Since the vehicle was purchased new in 2020, the check engine light has come on and the service throttle body message has been displayed 12 times. It only happens when I am towing a 5,500 pound travel trailer. When the anomalies happens, I loose engine power. Say I am traveling at 65 MPH. When the anomalies happens and the CEL and warning messages appear, my speed drops to 32 MPH. Most Interstate freeway systems have a 45 MPH lower limit. I am forced to quickly pull over to the emergency lane to avoid a crash situation. If I shut off the engine and restart it, my power comes back but the CEL is still on. The selling dealership has tried to fix this several times. The engine code that is always present is a P00AF (turbo boost control “A” module performance, I think over boost) and at one time a P0299 (turbo under boost). The latter occurred after I heard a loud “whoosh” . The turbo air hose blew off. So far the Dealer has flash programmed the engine control module, replace the turbo hose and lastly replaced the turbo itself. Not all of the anomalies have been documented by the dealer, as I am always traveling around the country when it happens and have called dealers in the city nearest me at the time and have gotten every excuse as to why they cannot look as it now. I am almost always able to resume my travels by shutting off and restarting the engine. When I arrive back home and take it in to be looked at, I’m told there is no codes and no history of a code. It can be several thousand miles after the anomalies when the dealer finally gets to look at it. FCA (Chrysler corp) is aware of the situation and has opened 4 cases for my concern. Case # 77583210 which they immediately closed, # 78338328, #79796818 and just on 06-9-2023 case # 86383024. The vehicle now has 21,726 miles on it and most of them are towing miles. The vehicle specifications state this vehicle can tow 12,000 lbs. I bought this vehicle for vacations and towing. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE!

MGU Failed, 48v code P0DAF had early signs of premature failure. when on the highway, vehicle shut off completely, no power what so ever. Couldn't steer correctly and vehicle was going highway speeds (approximately 70mph) dealer has confirmed the issue being there MGU gone bad, but I have records of water intrusion multiple times on the rear seats, headliner & back glass (XL1) and water intrusion can cause BPCM to go bad along with the MGU to go bad. they first appeared on or around December 2025, most likely way before that but just never noticed it. check engine light came on and showed a code for the BPCM going bad and then I had the CHMSL replaced 3 times under warranty & then the 4th visit they did they urethane warranty superseded the XL1 and even after that fix, there water leak still occurred and dealership wouldn't fix it they stated Stellantis denied the back glass replacement and further repairs because im out of warranty but the warranty expires 8 Years/150,000 miles and my vehicle is only 6 years old and sitting at 118,350 miles. but the entire problem with water intrusion most likely started anywhere from 60-70,000 miles ago. even when I purchased the vehicle at 39,801 miles I noticed the water stains on the headliner but was advised the CHMSL caused that so it was fixed so technically the CHMSL was replaced roughly 4 times along with the original making it a total of 5 CHSML. so my issue is that its highly possible that the water intrusion that was never fixed for thousands of miles and many months leaked into the rear seats near the 48V Battery pack and eventually started shorting and lead to the MGU going bad. so this all could've been avoided if dealership fixed the water leak many many visits ago. along with the MGU could've been replaced under the major emissions comp warranty way. before that ever expired when it showed signs of premature wear like DTC codes popping up at 100,000 miles and even many more visits prior to December.

I purchased a brand new 2020 Ram 1500 with 5.7-liter hemi ETORQUE engine in 2020. The vehicle had been making a squealing noise since before 40k miles. Dealership was unable to identify issue on numerous occasions. On 4/8/2024, with vehicle mileage at 74k miles, the noise worsened to a point where the vehicle was not drivable. They identified the "Alternator" (MGU) to the etorque needed to be replaced. The part was on back order and did not arrive until 6/24/2025. At which the dealership replaced the part and expedited the return of the vehicle without proper assurance that the replaced part, fixed the vehicles problem. Less than 375 miles later, a system battery saver came up on the dash. Turning off all electronics in the vehicle including but not limited to A/C and radio. Temps were more than 100 at this time. Within less than 550 miles, the vehicle lost all power and shut off while in the middle of an interstate. I lost my power steering and luckily was able to move onto a narrow shoulder but was left in a very dangerous situation with my family on the side of a high-speed interstate, awaiting a tow truck for hours, without rear end protection. There were a lot of close calls and no urgency from RamCare Stellantis. I was told that the vehicle can only be seen by a certified ram technician. The only certified Ram Dealership that was willing to help was more than 30 minutes away, where the vehicle still sits today. Now the vehicle has been at a dealership since that break down on 7/3/2025. Awaiting another back ordered part, with no estimated eta. This time it is awaiting a 48V Power Pack, related to 8yr/80k mile warranty. I am having to pay out of pocket for a rental, while still paying on a car loan and insurance on a vehicle I have not been able to use since April. Customer service has been horrific handling my case. Leaving myself with no certainty that I will ever see my vehicle again or if the long awaited back ordered part will in fact fix the issue.

I took my 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiese to a Chrysler-Dodge-Ram dealership on 9/23/25 for the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) safety recall. I was told a part had to be ordered to complete the recall and gave me a rental vehicle. After a few days I contacted the dealership about my repair. They said the wrong part was ordered and the new one was in route. After about a week, I called the dealership again and I was told "the truck won't start and they were working with Stellantis to figure out why." Several more days passed, I called again, they stated that after the new pump was installed and the truck was started it "blew a rod," but they had fixed it, test drove it, and it would be ready for pick up the next day. I picked up the truck on 10/16/25 and drove less than 50 miles (first trip home from the dealership.) While traveling at highway speed on interstate 77 at night, the truck suddenly lost all engine power, a “throttle” warning message appeared, I noticed a strong odor of burnt oil, and I was only able to get from the left passing lane across to the right truck lane, only getting 2 tires on the shoulder (see pic). The truck would not start again, it just made a click-click-click sound. I jumped out of the truck as there was a truck in that lane coming toward me and ran into the woods to escape. I and the truck were nearly struck by traffic. This was a life-threatening situation. Luckily, a Courtesy Patrol saw me and blocked the lane with road flares. Eventually the truck was towed (had to be dragged on to the flatbed). At that time I noticed engine oil was splashed all over the underside of truck. It was towed to the same dealership. This catastrophic failure occurred hours after I was told it was safe to drive. This incident placed my life and the lives of other motorists at extreme risk. A recall intended to improve safety appears to have introduced a new, severe safety hazard. The truck has been at the dealership since 10/17/25 and I have not been updated since.

Airbag / restraint failure

AIR BAGS

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11710471

On Thursday, January 8, 2026, I was operating my vehicle when an oncoming single vehicle traveling in the opposite direction entered a curve at an excessive speed, lost control, and crossed into my lane. I attempted to steer away to avoid the collision; however, the oncoming vehicle struck my vehicle along the driver’s side. The collision caused significant damage to the driver's side and resulted in a failure of the passenger-side rear wheel/tire assembly, complete detachment of the tire from the vehicle. During the collision, none of my vehicle’s airbags deployed, despite the side-impact nature of the crash and the force of the collision. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The airbag restraint system failed to deploy during a significant collision involving the driver. The vehicle and airbag system remain intact and are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The lack of airbag deployment during a driver-side impact increased the risk of injury to me as the vehicle operator. Airbags are designed to provide supplemental protection in collisions of this type, and the absence of deployment reduced occupant protection. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No diagnostic inspection or reproduction testing has yet been performed. Evaluation by a dealer or manufacturer representative is pending. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Police responded to the accident scene. The incident has been reported to insurance representatives. Manufacturer inspection has not yet occurred, but the vehicle remains available for review. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights, dashboard messages, or other symptoms related to the airbag

On [XXX] while exiting [XXX] at [XXX] and [XXX] , The steering wheel on my 2020 RAM 1500 completely locked up. There were no prior warnings—no dashboard lights, unusual sounds, or other indications of a problem. It wasn’t until I had significantly slowed down that I was able to apply enough force to get the vehicle into a nearby shopping center. The dashboard warning light did not appear until my vehicle was almost stopped. The dashboard error messaged indicated there was a "Power Steering Failure." Following this incident, I took the vehicle to the nearest CDJR dealership. The vehicle intake was handled by the Service Advisor advised that it may be the steering rack. The following week, we were advised that the vehicle was ready for pick-up and the service technician diagnosed the issue as an internal fault in the instrument panel switch bank. The switch bank was replaced per service protocols, diagnostic codes were cleared, and the system was thoroughly tested. The technician confirmed that the problem had been resolved. However, on [XXX], after retrieving the vehicle from the dealership, I experienced another alarming failure. While traveling at approximately 65-70 MPH, my steering wheel suddenly locked AGAIN. At that moment, I was surrounded by traffic, including an 18-wheeler next to me. The situation was life-threatening, and I feared for my safety. My thoughts were immediately consumed with concern for my daughter and husband as I fought to maintain control of the vehicle. Fortunately, I was able to bring the vehicle to a stop, but the experience was nothing short of terrifying. A week has passed, and I am still deeply shaken by the event and appears it may be the rack after all. Other owners have reported similar failures with the RAM 1500's power steering system and is not an isolated case. It poses a grave risk, and is not an isolated case. To Whom It May Concern, The issue I am reporting is that the drivers side of my cargo bin on my 2020 Ram Rebel is opening on its own. This has occurred many times while I was driving and most times, items inside the cargo bin have fallen out on the road. This issue is also taking place when the vehicle has been parked and locked, as I come out in the morning or return from an errand and the ride side drivers cargo bin is wide open. I have also had items stolen because of this. This shortcoming is now also killing my battery all the time, since after I jump the vehicle, I can hear the locking mechanism attempting to lock and unlock on its own. I feel this is a huge liability since the contents of the bin are sometimes landing in the roadway behind my truck. I contacted Crown Dodge in Ventura, Ca and they have stated they have never heard of this situation before. When I look on-line for similar complaints, many people are saying the exact same thing as their drivers side cargo bins are opening due to an electrical wire loom shortcoming. Some of these individuals have taken their trucks to their local Dodge dealers and they are changing the wire loom and adding additional weather protection to it to correct the issue. This situation, if not addressed will cause damage to vehicles behind the trucks if not accidents as the contents of the bin can immediately become unsecured and effect all vehicles behind it. I have now opened the top of my bin and disconnected the leads powering the lock switch and it seems to be working as the bin is locked all the time and I will now need to use my key to unlock it. This has also kept my battery from draining, but I feel the dealer should step up and correct this very dangerous situation on their own before the liability for accidents and/or damage is directed to the truck owners themselves.
