Source model text: Griddler model GR-4N. Incident: We have owned the Cuisinart Griddler for a few years. The cooking plates are removable for cleaning, and can be reversed. The clips that hold the plates on seem to have lost their integrity, the upper plate fell off several times when the top was lifted during its last use, causing a serious burn hazard had I been flipping the food that was on the cooking surface.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120305-FD653-2147469558. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: DCC-1200BW. Incident: We have a Cuisinart DCC-1200 coffee-maker that briefly after brewing the coffee started to produce a lot of smoke. There was a growing smell of plastic burning and fortunately my 5-yr old daughter caught it before we left the house. I immediately unplugged it from the outlet. I'm happy my house did not burn down, and sad to know that this happened to so many other people as I can see reported here without any serious action being taken against removing this product from the market. Unfortunately, it will take somebody's house to burn down first it seems.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260525-0F527-2147318688. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: GR-11. Incident: A Cuisinart panini press started an electrical fire. The cord directly below the prongs sparked and lit on fire while plugged in and in use. I quickly unplugged it and the entire prong portion broke off from the cord that was lit on fire. It was not an electrical issue as there is no problem with the power source after inspection and you can see the fire started from the cord itself where it pulled apart from itself due to the fire melting the cord.

Electric Blenders (215)

24 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130106-F731C-2147460189. Severity: Injury, Emergency Department Treatment Received. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: Cuisinart CSB-76 Smartstick Hand Blender. Incident: The incident involves Cuisinart CSB-76 Smartstick Hand Blender. Severe finger laceration requiring approximately 9 stitches occurred after the device failed to turn off while being disassembled. It is possible for the main power switch to be in the "on" position, allowing the blade to continue turning while a second "detach" button is pressed. The detach button is not properly designed, because when pressed, that button should de-energize the appliance before it can be disassembled. I note there have been at least 3 other similar incidents located on the CPSC website, but could find no corrective measures or recalls to date. I recommend that the company be required to recall these devices and install a properly engineered safety interlock device that makes it impossible to energize the blender while it is being disassembled. This would make it impossible for injuries such as this to occur in the future. The instruction manual's advice to unplug the device is important, but fails to meet widely accepted safety engineering standards. Please advice on CPSC's action in this matter. Thank you. Sincerely, [REDACTED]

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140329-37822-2147445937. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: DTC-975 termal coffeemaker. Incident: the top part of the coffeemaker (black plastic) comes apart from the stainless steel. This leave a hole about 2 inches cause HOT coffee to spill all over, I this morning get my hand burnt and coffee went all over my bathrobe causing my chest to burn and having to ripe off bath robe. I did not have to get medical as my burn was only like a sun burn. My concern is if a young mother is pouring coffee and a young baby is hanging around mom as young children do this baby can get a bad burn. As I say , the amount of coffee that came out was to cover my counter to the amount of a 12 oz and the ran down my dishwasher and then to the floor, There was enough coffee to use 6 wash clothes size to clean up Call up company and their attitude was so bad about it being out of warranty" IT WAS OH WELL" I do not want a law suit, I do not want money, I want them to realize that this is not safe and to do something about it.

Incident: Cuisinart grind and brew coffee machine -- I've had two models (the second that was a replacement) that have started crackling and smoking. Cuisinart, after a long process, replaced the one from the fire it caused in May. The new one they sent is doing the same thing. I've researched online and can see that several customers have already submitted complaints to you but nothing has been recalled yet. Cuisinart has been uncooperative in is refunding these hazardous machines. Even a simple google review will yield dozens and dozens of reports of this happening and people nearly losing their homes to fires.

Electric Can Openers (213)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180411-AF316-1750946. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: CCO-50N. Incident: The consumer indicates that he used his electric can opened to open a can. When the can opener had rotated three-hundred sixty degrees and was at the starting point, it shaved off a piece of metal into the can. The consumer used the can opened once again to determine if the incident was a one-time matter however it was not as the same thing happened with the second can he opened. The consumer believes this poses a safety hazard as the piece of metal that falls into the can be ingested without the knowledge of a person eating, and causing serious internal injury to them.

Electric Counter-top Ovens, Broilers or Toaster Ovens (216)

4 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120813-28902-2147464808. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: TOB-165. Incident: I have a broiler/convection/toaster oven from Cuisinart that sits on a counter top. The style number is TOB-195. It is an expensive all stainless steel unit. It is seemingly a nice oven, but there is a defect in the design that can prove to be EXTREMELY dangerous, especially to CHILDREN. The elements of the oven are at the top of the unit and very close to the exterior steel casing. There does not seem to be any insulation between the steel and the elements, and if there is - it does not work as it is insufficient. As a result the outside of the unit gets extremely hot when in use to the point that it cannot even be touched without actually causing a burn to the skin. It can actually cause second and third order burns to the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin. That is how hot it gets. Other toaster broilers I have had and still have may get warm but not so hot you cannot even touch the unit. The Cuisinart is of poor design and poses a very serious risk to children in the home, and adults who may inadvertently touch the outside while in use, which is an easy thing to do. It also poses a fire risk, and will melt any plastics that you may place on top while in use. My wife and I have both burned our hands on the unit. We stopped using it, as we did not want our small and teenage children to burn themselves.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210213-45F42-2147365907. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: SCO-60 (BN). Incident: I have twice found curved slivers of metal in my food after using the Cuisinart Stainless Steel Can Opener Model SCO-60 (BN). Once was from a can of food (either beans or green chili that I had added to soup), the other was in a can of coffee. Both slivers were about 3/4 inch long and blue-tinged. This opener is less than 3 months old and I bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. From the beginning, I was worried because it always leaves a very curved, rough edge on the lid. The edge on the can itself seems clean. I did not think to save the slivers. No one was injured. However, I would definitely have been seriously injured had I not spotted the sliver before ingesting it.

Electric Coffee Makers or Teapots (217)

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20161121-76BBE-2147410526. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener. Source model text: Model DCC-1150. Incident: Purchased a new Cuisinart Model DCC-1150 Coffee Maker to be used in an office by 5 people. The FIRST time we used it the carafe leaked hot coffee from the poring spout which ran down the pot and dripped hot coffee on the user. I called Cuisinart and was advised that since this coffee pot is being used by a business, the warranty is void. Due to the hazardous issue with this carafe, we are no longer using it. I can understand that a warranty would have a shorter limitation if it is being used in an office environment, but that should be no excuse for one that is hazardous and new out of the box.

Electric Can Openers (213)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250610-961BC-2147330617. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener (Its an electric can opener, a Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener, black). Incident: My Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener, shot electrical sparks out on the counter after I moved it. UPDATED ON 7/3/2025: [In response to this reply I received after filing my report, in order to elaborate on what the risk of harm was, is that If I was in physical contact of the metal pieces of the can opener and completed the circuit with my hand, I would have burned my hand at the very least, and If one hand was on the metal, while any other part of my body was touching something that was connected to ground, I would have 15 AMPs of current passing through my Heart, which would kill me instantly. Luckily I didnt touch the metal on the can opener so all that happened was I was startled when the sparks came out, which missed me or anything flammable. Its also entirely possible that a short like this could have caused a fire, in which the house would be destroyed killing the occupants. ]
