Incident: I purchased 6 Kidde Smoke/CO2 Alarms and I'm constanlty getting false alarms. I just went to the [REDACTED] Site and I'm seeing I'm not alone and it's not an isolated event. These products, given the function they are preforming, should be recalled. I have the model P4010ACSCO-WF units

Incident: Kidde P4010ACSCO-W alarms during periods of high humidity, like most of the summer in Baltimore. This has led me to remove these devices from service so I can actually sleep at night. I hope I don't burn in a fire because of their negligence. Looking at their reviews, a lot of people have a similar problem.

Incident: I have six of these interconnected fire/CO combination detectors in my home that are less that two years old. These things constantly false alarm to where I'm getting 3-4 false alarms (usually between 1-3am) per month. If you review the Kidde home page, you'll see these things are a 1-star item with false alarms being a constant choice. This many false alarms is not safe.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 22, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250225-EA706-2147332926. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kidde P4010ACS. Source model text: P4010ACSC-WF. Incident: I own the Kidde smart smoke alarm, model P4010ACSC-WF, that worked mostly fine for 3 years with occasional connectivity issues. Recently, the smoke alarm connectivity issues had lasted for almost a month, much longer than normal. I attempted to test the smoke alarm only to discover the testing failed, the smoke alarm would not sound at all. I disconnected and reconnected power to the device, which did not resolve the issue - testing still failed to sound the alarm. After being disconnected from power for a full day, the device finally started testing successfully again. I'm less concerned about the connectivity issues and most concerned that the device was malfunctioning and would not sound the alarm. I reported the defective device to Kidde, but Kidde refused to acknowledge this behavior as a problem and even refused to replace the device. It is concerning to think how long this device might have been in a malfunctioning state, not offering any protection to my home and family. The device offered no beep, no chirp to indicating it was malfunctioning.

Incident: I purchased a kidde smoke/fire/carbon monoxide detector with WiFi. The detectors have had numerous false alarms. A total of 7 separate times since I have owned them Since October 2023. In all cases there were no signs of smoke or smell, however they went off when there was high humidity. They have been cleaned occasionally. Upon research if appears others have experienced the same issue. The frequent smoke alarm initiation make one more complacent resulting in a higher potential for life and death.

Fire or Smoke Alarms (702)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 22, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240124-0774C-2147341528. Matched catalog product: Kidde P4010ACS. Source model text: P4010ACS and P4010ACSCO-W. Incident: I purchased 7 Kidde smoke detectors and they have a constant problem of false alarms. They are model P4010ACS which are wired and have a permanent battery. They first starting false alarming within two months of being installed. After it happened 3 or 4 times, I started removing the offending detector, thinking that there was a simple defective one. After removing 4 of them it seemed to be a device wide problem and I replaced them with another brand and no longer have false alarms. In addition to the false alarms, we would get periodic false alarms where we would get a smoke indication (3 beeps) but only one time, then they would go silent. Since I replaced them, I have them on the floor in my office, and since they have a 10-year battery they are still active, and still provide both actual false alarms and the short alarm. It is always only one alarming even though they are all next to each other. I have made a few inactive as they seemed to be the worst offenders.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240824-38FC5-2147336948. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kidde P4010ACS. Incident: Kidde Model P4010ACS fire alarms repeatedly produce false alarms when no fire or smoke is present, most commonly in the middle of the night. The only way to make them stop doing this is to disconnect and disable them. This has the effect of desensitizing people to fire alarms. I have experienced this with two different units, and reviews of the product indicate that it is very common for this to happen.

Fire or Smoke Alarms (702)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 22, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20221021-63CFD-2147353223. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kidde P4010ACS. Incident: I have five smoke detectors in my house. After 13 years, I replaced them all with a Kidde brand detector. After a couple of months, I received a recall notice from Kidde. They eventually replaced them with a different model. Soon after I installed the new ones, I started to get false alarms. I had them all wired together so the false alarms reverberated throughout the entire house and it was impossible to know which one had falsely triggered. I then adjusted the wiring on each one so that they would not all trigger if one triggered. Over the next year or so, each one would falsely alarm. As each one would give a false alarm, I pulled it. I was left with just one fire detector and that one alarmed the other night, now I have no working detectors. I've called Kidde twice (once today) and have yet to have a confirmation that they will replace them even though they have a 10 year warranty. There is certainly a flaw in this model.

Fire or Smoke Alarms (702)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250917-E45B8-2147327766. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Kidde P4010ACS (Kidde P4010ACS Hardwired Photoelectric Smoke Alarm). Incident: The Kidde AC Hardwired Photoelectric Smoke Alarm (P4010ACS) has been found to be defective and unreliable. Consumers have reported frequent false alarms occurring at random intervals, ranging from several times per week to multiple times per day. These alarms trigger at all hours, despite there being no smoke, no fire, and proper installation in appropriate locations away from kitchens, bathrooms, or sources of humidity. Even after thorough cleaning to remove dust, cobwebs, and insects, the issue persists. Numerous customer reviews on the manufacturers own website confirm this is not an isolated problem, but a widespread product failure. This defect creates unnecessary stress and inconvenience for consumers, while undermining trust in the alarms ability to function during an actual emergency. Instead of providing safety, the P4010ACS delivers a false sense of security and repeated nuisance alarms, making it an unsafe and faulty product that requires immediate recall.
