7 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (7 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 12.5 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170131-80F17-2147407480. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Samsung galaxy. Incident: My samsung edge 7 plus gets extremely hot during use, it gets so hot that it can barely be held. Sometimes when it overheats and gets extremely hot it will.power down instantly interrupting use. In addition, my phone became so.hot at one.instance that when my daughter went to answer my phone and put it to her ear and face she dropped phone stating that it burned her face although no burn marks her face was physically red where the phone had touch her face and ear. I believe this is a major concern to be taken.into full consideration. I believe the heat and possiblity for phone to become so hot that it explodes or cause undue harm and pain is very likely.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160916-1BB3F-2147414093. Matched catalog product: Samsung galaxy. Source model text: Galaxy S6 Active. Incident: Summary of Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Explosion/Burn Incident: It appears that Samsung is saying only the [REDACTING] has a problem. My Samsung Galaxy S6 Active (available through AT&T only I think) also burned up while charging via a Samsung charger. The smoke alarms went off and our bedroom was filled with smoke. There was char on the curtains about 2 feet away from the bed and charred marks on the headboard; the phone burned through the hardcover of a book. Both AT&T and Samsung said that I should deal directly with Samsung on this and I sent my phone to Samsung at their request. This happened at the beginning of June and Samsung finally sent me a check in August after giving me a huge runaround (likely that the Samsung [REDACTING] recall was already in the works.) After multiple weeks, I was told that it was taking so long because I filed a claim instead of just accepting payment for my phone of accepting another model of Samsung 6 because the Active model is only available through AT&T. My claim included the cost of my burned phone plus approximately $140 for a $40 [REDACTING] (that works great by the way), 2 curtain panels, the cost of the burned book and a few dollars that I paid to have the headboard cleaned. I did not claim anything for the huge amount of time I spent just trying to get Samsung to talk to me about the status of my phone. And laughably before they sent me a check, they sent me a coupon for shopping on the Samsung website for a new phone. I received my

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160920-F4331-2147413909. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung galaxy. Source model text: Galaxy Note 7. Incident: I had purchased a Note 7 on Craigslist and was returning home from the purchase with my buddy. I was charging the phone in the car and noticed it began to get quite hot to the touch, so I placed it in its box, closed the flap, and put it on the floorboard to continue charging. After about maybe 10 to 15 minutes we noticed a strange chemical smell, then there was a loud "POP" and the box was on fire and smoking. I instantly grabbed the box and threw it out the open window while we were going down the road, as to avoid injury to myself or the car, and to make sure it didn't cause my friend to crash. This was before the recall had been made, so I was unsure of what to do or what had really just happened. About a week later I saw the recall from Samsung, so I emailed them and was assured I would have their full support, I then called a few times to explain again what had occurred to them and went about the process of getting my replacement. Samsung is in the process of getting me my replacement now, buy are trying to change their terms and are asking for the IMEI and/or a reciept to complete the replacement, (Even after they have said they will replace or refund ALL Note 7's, your official recall has came out, and the factwo that it exploded.) which I have neither as the phone and box were destroyed by the fire and lost in the actions I took to protect myself and my friend, and there was never a reciept, as it was a seller to seller sale, and none are usually provided, and if are

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20161001-BE159-2147412447. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung galaxy. Source model text: Galaxy 7S. Incident: On July 26, 2016, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy 7S at full price to use as a prepaid phone at The Verizon Wirelesss store in Cherry Hill, NJ, located at 2110 E. RT 70. I asked my salesclerk,[REDACTED], if I could purchase an extended warranty. I was told I could not because I paid for the phone in full to use as a pre-paid. It did not sound correct to me, but she wouldn't budge. My bill of sale invoice number is: [REDACTED]. Recently, I started having issues with the phone getting extremely and dangerously hot. When I called to report the issue, I was told that my model was not recalled and they won't replace it either because it is over 30 days from my purchase. This phone should be at least covered by the one year manufacture warranty that comes with all their products. I also followed all the tips suggested to keep a smartphone from overheating, but none seemed to work. My issue got worse an worse and came to a head last night when the phone got so hot that it melted into the [REDACTED] case and the screen saver. Thank God it was laying on my outback glass patio table and not in my pocket where it usually is because then it could have caused me serious injury or harm. Today I called the same Verizon store that I bought the phone and case from at approximately 11:45 am to rectify this issue. The woman who answered the phone responded to my issue by stating, "It happened to less than 1% of the people in China. I have 5 customers and no time for this [REDACTED]." She told me t

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160930-08CEC-2147413463. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung galaxy. Source model text: samsung galaxy s6 active. Incident: 9-26-2016 I woke up at 5:30 took phone off charger and did usual checking email and played games on phone until 6:30. Phone was not hot that I could tell. After taking kids to the bus about 20 minutes without using the phone I took it out of my pocket laid it on my bed and it popped really loud and start spewing smoke and melted plastic out of the phone on both ends, screen shattered and the case melted. The smoke alarms went off and the phone was too hot to touch. So much smoke it took all day with Windows open and fans blowing out the windows to get the burnt plastic smell out od the house. Burned my sheets but because of the case the damage was minimal. I believe there is a problem with this phone battery also. I have talked to Samsung with no resolution as of 10-30-2016. They tell me someone will call me and I have to call and get different info each time and I have sent all the documentation. They have asked for. I was just seconds from removing the phone from my pocket and just seconds from being injured. This is a safety concern that should be looked into.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150131-16178-2147435842. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: samsung galaxy (Samsung galaxy tablet model gt-p7310ma). Incident: My 11 year old daughter unplugged the usb charging cord from a samsung galaxy tablet computer that is approximately 4 years old. She started to cry as she was burned/ electrocuted. I handled the cord and was also burned. The rubber at the end of the cord where it plugs into the device had suddenly come apart which exposed metal wiring. There had been no signs of wear on the cord prior to the incident which makes this a risk. The injuries were minor as to not require medical attention however the shock was serious. It also poses a likely fire risk. I contacted samsung but they are disinterested. The part is inexpensive to replace. I proposed to them the product is defective because of the nature of its failure and the cheap rubber failure to expose metal wiring is dangerous. some wiring has an interwire that is made of the stronger more common plastic wiring. Also fiber optic type of wiring. I proposed to them they recall the product as ive never had any other plug fail in that manner on any small device including cheap cell phones. The part is available for less than $5 but this is truly a dangerous part due to its inferior quality. I have a photo of the cord and can send it to you as well. the cord was a bit melted where it came apart. perhaps I can email the picture, couldn't get it to upload.
