SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120728-9B5B2-2147465304. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WRFF3736SZ French door refrigerator. Source model text: ED5FHEXLQ01. Incident: I woke up and opened my bedroom door on Friday, July 27th to the smell of smoke and my living room and kitchen very hazy with smoke. Went quickly to look around and couldn't find anything. I woke my husband up and he searched in and outside the house and in attic. The smell and smoke got very bad and we were fixing to call 911 when we noticed smoke rolling out from under our refrigerator. My husband quickly pulled the refrigerator out away from the wall and unplugged it. When we got it outside, my husband found that a little white box and all of the wires connected to the side of the compressor had burned. Later in the evening, we found all of the reports telling about WHIRLPOOL knowing that this could happen but chose not to tell the consumers. Just very blessed to have been home to find it. Just the day before, I had left my two teenage children home sleeping while I went to a meeting at school. Just very scary to think what might have happened had I not been at home and woke up...........

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210405-B0599-2147364980. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WRFF3736SZ French door refrigerator. Source model text: WRS588FIHB00. Incident: I own a Whirlpool Refrigerator/Freezer with ice and water in the door. The dispenser motor had stopped working several months ago. After replacing the motor and the control board, it still didn't work. Then suddenly I saw sparks ark out of the bottom of the door. I thought it was from the motor since it looked like ice had jammed the agitator. After that arc, the ice maker stopped producing ice completely. I did some more troubleshooting today after reading some hints on the web and one said to check the wiring loom that comes out of the bottom of the door. Sure enough, due to a terrible design flaw, the entire wiring harness had been severed. That explains the arcing and sparks coming out of the bottom of the door. This item should be recalled due to safety issues as it prevents serious danger to consumers.

Source model text: WRS571CIHZ02. Incident: Our Whirlpool Side-by-side refrigerator suddenly stopped making ice. Upon investigating, several wires inside the freezer door have been severed. It is clearly a design flaw that Whirlpool is aware of. In fact, it is a VERY COMMON problem among other owners, as we have read on a [REDACTED] thread with hundreds of complaints. Our family has used the product for 21 months of every day use, before this occurred. There have not been any injuries, but wires are exposed and that is a fire hazard.

Source model text: W10838379. Incident: Whirpool Refrigerator (French Door with Ice maker) Black Stainless steel. purchased on 8/27/21 it was delivered on 9/7/2021. Ice maker did not work . My husband called tri supply the retailer, and whirlpool. They sent appliance express out for repair, after coming out a couple times it was determined that the mechinism in the door was faulty and the repairman said we needed a new door and it would take 7 -10 days to get it and then they would replace it. He clipped some wires at the top of the door as he said he couldn't rethread them in the door when the replacement arrives. Today is June 18, 2022 and I still do not have a new door or icemaker and the temperature in the refrigerator is not at 37 degrees. I bought a ref themo and it was 50 degrees. I called appliance express and told them the problem and that Ive been throwing food out due to spoilage. They sent a repairman out and he said he would order parts and set a time to come back out on 5/30 to do repair and they never showed up. So I called appliance express and spoke to [REDACTED], [REDACTED] called back said the parts would not help and the Whirlpool refrigerator was probably going out. I called whirlpool again and they did not have all the information from the repair shop appliance express. I sent whirlpool and appliance express and the FTC a letter with documentation that I was ready for Whirlpool to send a replacement or a check for $ $3301.61 The amount I paid for it. I have thrown lots of food away. Bought ice

Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WRFF3736SZ French door refrigerator. Source model text: GR2SHWXVB01. Incident: I opened the refrigerator to get milk out for my 18 month old twin before their nap. I saw and smelled smoke in the refrigerator, it could have easily been mistaken for the mist that occurs on hot days. I searched for the source of the smoke, but found nothing. I opened to freezer to investigate further and discovered more smoke. I closed the door and pulled the refrigerator away from the wall to see if there was smoke behind it or coming from the outside. I saw not smoke from the outside. I opened the freezer again, the smoke was more intense and was starting to fill the downstairs. I unplugged the refrigerator and grabbed a fire extinguisher. I opened the freezer again and saw smoke and flames in the back behind the plastic cover for the fan motor. I used the extinguisher to put out the flames. I checked on my wife and kids, they were all fine, and called the fire department. They came and investigated and stated that the fan motor had caught fire and to keep the unit unplugged.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20191112-632EF-2147376618. Severity: Injury, Seen by Medical Professional. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WRFF3736SZ French door refrigerator. Source model text: WRF555SDFZ09. Incident: We purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator 7/25/19. Four days after delivery, 8/1/19, the refrigerator was not functioning properly. One of the five issues this product has is dumping ice all over the floor. My husband woke in the night and went to the kitchen for water. He slipped and fell due to melted ice. His knee swelled and had to have excess water drained by physician. We have had 3 tech visits so far and now are looking at yet another. List of issues are freezer compartment freezing over because gasket isn't tight (already had this issue fixed once), ice maker dumps ice all over the floor or no ice comes out at all. Inside tempurature of regrigerator is inconsistent either foods are warm or frozen. Home depot and Whirlpool will not refund our money. We are afraid that they will just keep making these bogus repairs until a year is up and the warranty will be over. Every time I call Whirlpool they say they MAY charge for the repair.
